It is really hard to envision what you're describing. I can only imagine, since the seats totally fold over and spring loaded at every joint, you took something apart that has spring pressure on it, and NOT have to get it back together with spring pressure fighting you and no room/place to fit a lever into the area and compress the spring and take off the spring pressure to get pieces back together.

So all I can suggest is extremely general.

First, look it over again, see if there is room in there to put a big screwdriver into the mechanism and use it as a lever to compress the spring and take off the pressure and get these pieces lined up.

If you can't do that, then likely you took it apart incorrectly -OR- are putting it back together in the wrong order. You may need to take it apart again, look at how the pieces fit together and get the pieces together first that spring pressure applied later.
