3"-4" lift or parts list to achieve this.

1433 Views 30 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Durk
Has anyone been able to find a 3-4" lift since the last posting? I really want to run 33s when I buy mine and cant find kits anywhere. if there are not kits can some one give me a parts list of what worked for them so achieve that lift? I want it to still ride well so I'm willing to spend the money and do it right.

Also, when a commander is lifted to that height what are some issues that arise?

Ok so I see every commander lift also says it fits the GC. Does that mean all GC lifts of the same year fit XKs?
Ok man here goes, I put together this lift myself and it’s been working for me for over two years. I overland/off-road frequently in the Arkansas Ozarks and Colorado mountains so it’s a proven set up. I’m not gentle on my Commander, it’s our extra vehicle specifically for overlanding, so again, this set up works off-road. 25k miles on this set up so far.

Front:
Old Man Emu 2” heavy duty springs
Old Man Emu struts
Rocky Road 9/16” strut spacer
JBA Upper control arms
I removed my front sway bar for more flex, not recommending that if you do a lot of highway driving.

Rear:
Old Man Emu 2” Heavy Duty springs
Old Man Emu Shocks
2” rear spring spacers (I made mine custom, but they are available on eBay, get steel ones).
I also removed my rear sway bar; again, not recommending that for daily driver.

You will have to do a lot of trimming in the front wheel well, pinch weld completely removed, wheel well liner trimmed shorter than a marines haircut, and if you have rear A/C you will have to either move the lines or delete them. I moved mine closer to the transmission to get them out of the way.....and then presto I run 33” tires. 285/70/17 to be exact. I do not have a wheel spacer installed anywhere.

Edit: I forgot to add I have after market wheels that have enough offset for the tires. My Jeep came to me with these aftermarket wheels.

Good deal, we're probably at about the same ride-height now.
Perhaps closer in height, but I think your XK is still a bit higher.
Here is what mine looks like with the set up I laid out above.

What size tires did you wind up going with?

Just a hair over 32" (255 75 17). I still daily it, so while the width of the new tires is 10mm narrower than my prior set of tires, they're taller and so so so much quieter.

I feel like every commander is slight differnt. I installed the ebay 2” block kit with new struts and gained 4” lift up front. Rear blocks gained 2” lift. Im running 245/17 ATS and it rode rough in the beginning. Struts were smacking the backside of Knuckles but aftr while noise went away. Now it runs smooth. I say all are different cause iv seen others run same kit with different results.

Depending how much coin you are willing to drop on the lift there is JeePerf Performance Suspension Engineeing .They seem to have quite a selection of components for the XK/WK. They even have front differential drop kits. But it is À La carte so lots of homework to pick complementary components, and lots of money. I've been eyeing their poly bushing sets for awhile but other projects keep coming up.

Yes I currently do not own one but I am actively looking and have been for some time. When I do find the one I am after I plan on lifting it to fit 33" tires and turning it into my wheeling rig. I am new to the commander model (Had an XJ prior) and just wanted to reach out to folks here to get my game plan set so I can begin to make moves as soon as I get it.
@mcguidr ;

First off, welcome to the forum;

That looks like another spacer lift kit.

Once you go beyond 2 inches of lift with just a spacer lift, you really start testing the limits of your stock suspension components - which is not a good thing.

I wouldn't recommend it.
