Hello.... Less than a week ago I had the opportunity to demo a 08 Commander. I knew vary little about the Commander other than the fact that the dealer was shelling out deals of the century; and that I was in need of an all around truck with four wheel drive. At first I doubted that any awd vehicle would handle my familys need to go off road, on the sand, and handle ski season in the winter, never the less i took the offer to keep it over night. The first thing I did was head to the beach..... we live just outside of ocean city so thirity minets later i was ready to give it a work out. I would have to say that i was impressed it took the sand with out airing down ( not recomended ) without hesitation. I purposely tried to stick it and did successfully. At that point i thought that I would be calling the beach patroll to pull me off just knowing that was going to be there for a long time. I aired down to 20 psi + - and to my surprise rolled out just as smoothly as it stuck. SO.... Sand great success!! :)
The next challange was a freshly plowed field in a down pour..... total failure, burried mysely to the frame. I believe though if I had more clearance and some apporiate tires I could have made it. After I managed to get out ( pulled out in shame ) I took it through realistic mud challanges 6 to 8 inches of slop and it was amazing. The last thing I did was hit the camping trails. I navigated hills and seep grades with no negatives at all. I believe that I got the right truck for my purpose. The v8 and qd2 have to be amazing but to pocket 15K and be able to do the things we enjoy was the win win I was looking for. A picture is worth a thousand words so i'll post em.

That's a great testimony to the capabilities of the 3.7 and QT1.

That was a good test! I also bought the same QT1 for daily-driver and liked what it does, though I wish there was a way to modify it to 4wd lo... is there such a thing?

I have an 08 Commander with the 3.7L QT1 and I was able to keep up with the Hemi's, QDII and QT2's in the group. Really I would like to hear some of the other people who went to the Badlands in Indiana and were watching give their comments about the QT1. I don't want to sound like I'm just bragging about my ride so I defer to my fellow Commander pilots.

About the low range, I know. I wish there was a way to do it as well. Go to Rubicrawler.com and check out their product. It's not for the QT1 but I believe it could be converted to it. E-mail them and tell them how much you want one for your Commander. If everyone e-mails them maybe they will start to listen. Not just us with the 3.7L QT1, EVERYONE.

Thanks.

Well Chaos now I know why you couldn't make it up tat one hill behind me. I forgot you had QT1. It did very well. I don't remember anywhere else that I went that you couldn't do and I was in 4LO with the ESP off all day.
