3.7l V6 with QT2, NV245?

Sometime back i posted a tread trying to figure out what transmission I have. Now I need to know about the transfer case. Do I have the NV245 or the NV140. I have the 3.7l V6 with QT2. I assume since I have QT2 i would also have the NV245...am i right? Manual doesn't help.

Also while we are talking about it I was wondering if there is anyone else on the forums with this set up? Robby (I believe) had mentioned it being somewhat rare. Anybody else have it?

Fstop28, Thanks for the photos. I'm going to crawl under mine tomorrow and check it out.
07, I wasn't saying you said the 3.7 trans wouldn't bolt up. My dealer told me that my trans output shaft is not the same and would not accept the 245. I also have a pm from another member that said the same thing. An adapter plate would be needed and then shafts and the module if the wiring harnesses are the same.
There are qiuet a few threads, going way back on trying to do this.
But no one has done it yet, that I know of.
I think with Fstops28's input this may come to fruition since it actually exists.
A year ago I would have tried this, but I will probably have another new to me XK QTII or QDII around March due to high mileage.

Im confused. Then how does Fstop28 have a NV245 mounted to his NAG1 Transmission?
I'm confused too.
I didn't know that a factory installation of the 3.7 and QTII existed or was even available as an option.
Fstops photo of the plate between trans and transfer case should answer some questions.
I'll be under mine as soon as I finish painting a bedroom, with a goal of figuring this out.
It was an option, but a rare one. They use the same setup in the WK, so it's not unbelievable, just rare.

All 4x4 Commanders have that adapter between the Transmission and Transfer Case.
Let me know if I can help...I have tried to decode some of those barcodes and numbers in the pics i took but to no avail. I am about to be out of pocket for a while. My wife is having a baby on Tuesday. I am sure i will be able to reply but may not be able to get under the XK and take any picture for a while.
Fstop thanks for helping.
I was painting all day yesterday and hope to get under mine today.
Congratulations and good luck!

Congrats!!!!

Boy or girl?
This will be my second Girl!
Any new developments on this! I'm definately interested!
Fstop,
I am trying to figure out which modules are needed for a 3.7L V6 with QT2. You have one! Under the rear seat behind the driver seat. If you fold up the rear seat forward to the back of the drivers seat. There is a carpeted cover over the control modules for the NV245 transfer case.
Would you possibly take some pictures of the modules with numbers, general layout and the wiring going to them? This would help out a lot.
I guess they just gave the V6's the cheapo stuff because they want people to buy the V8's? i guess V8's have more of a profit for them or something? idk. i just wish they would of had the V8's gear ratio in the V6. then i would be happy. atleast gear ratio upgrade. and possible 4LOW in V6 would be nice. as i have to haul heavy 31" super swampers around and it kills my acceleration and ability to climb.
I have the v6 QTI system, which means the NV140. Don't know much about NV-245, except that it has 4whl low and the ability to go into neutral.

If you can find pictures, it will be obvious the difference. The NV140 is tiny, in fact it looks to small for a vehicle this size. It only has the output/input drive shafts and metal/rubber vibration damper/isolator bolted on the opposite side of the fwd driveshaft. No wires connected to and just the drain/fill holes, which the drain hole is behind the damper/isolator.

The NV245, besides being bulkier, is going to have wires connected to it and a big metal motor/cylinder that does the shifting/mode changes on the transfer case.
No body has mentioned this, so I thought I would chime in. On a 3.7 Commander, QTI has 3.07 gears. Adding QTII to the 3.7 changes the gears to 3.55. If anyone is considering swapping the transfer case, this might be an important consideration. Or not! Just an FYI. :eek:rangehat:
I really agree.
The V-6 combination would have been more viable in my eyes.
But, Jeep was likely correct in making it an option knowing the majority of buyers were looking for a all weather all wheel drive vehicle, not a hill climber.
But the Computer controlled ABS used to limit slip, really makes that QT1 far more capable than most people would imagine. So, yes, its a cheaper simplier option for the AWD features you spoke about, but I think its also more, and is more than capable for many moderate Jeep owners that aren't into heavy off-roading.

I'd think it was more than capable of camping, light trails, heavy snow, a lot of reasons people would get a Jeep or 4X4, that weren't into heavy off-roading.
I have the V6 and it works perfect for what i do. i go through any mud spot i can find. sure its not like the southerners hit with their 35" tires and 8" lifts. but i hit tractor trails after it rains and go through about 3-4 feet of water. so its up to almost top of lights (leaves a water mark there) and i can still pull through pretty good. no 4low. i just manual shift it. and stay in 1st. and it helps. and when mudding, i turn off traction control. otherwise my tires just hit the fender and it shuts that wheel off.
...and when mudding, i turn off traction control. otherwise my tires just hit the fender and it shuts that wheel off.
Really? I would have thought it would do the opposite, you turn off the traction control, with all open differentials, one wheels bogs down in the mud, your stuck just spinning one wheel??

Am I confusing the names of the systems? I need to get back into the Owners manual and read some more.

Does the Traction Control button just turn off the throttle overide that prevents you from spinning wheels?

-OR-

Does the Traction Control button turn off the throttle overide and the wheel slip limiting through ABS function as well?

I should be able to get you some pictures...It might be a day or so before I can post them...but I'll see what I can do.
