I was reading on the forums about people wanting to know if they
made a air intake kit for the 2006 Jeep Commander with the 3.7L
engine, A post was made about it from a fellow poster that posted
a e-bay url where their was one for sale. I went to the url and
I brought the kit that was being auction off.

I received the kit and installed it, works like a champ! I even
contacted the seller and left a note that I was really pleased
with the kit. He answered every e-mail I sent! I'm impressed.

When you hit the accelerator the pickup is awsome!! as for gas
mileage increase I haven't been checking on that, will later on.
After all, people that buy a Chrysler product get it for the power
not the gas mileage. I'm going to try and upload some pictures of
how it was installed, I did install the vacuum reservior off to
the side with velco. The Air Filter is a K&N RU-3580
You do remove the whole airbox, man is that thing big!
Hope this helps some people out.

When you look at the pictures you will say to yerself, Hell I can
build that kit alot cheaper than what I brought it for. Yes you can
but someone had to buy it and see what it looked like.

Like I said I'm happy with it. Later on I will do the computer reset
thing and see whats happens then, I hope I posted this in
the right forum......

Heres the Pics of the install

HEY, Looks good! I also have the 3.7L and have been contemplating upgrading the intake system on this weaaaak engine haha. I'd REALLY appreciate it if you could take a video of the intake with the jeep running and revving so i could hear how the car would sound after the installation. that is basically the deciding factor! please let me know if you can help me out!
Thanks a lot

The difference in acceleration is unbelievable. I had purchased a K&N filter but I returned it because the generic filter that came with it worked better. I had purchased ru-2820. Just noticed you listed a different model.

No, not yet! We are waiting anxiously... But to all of you out there with a 3.7L, you wont' believe the difference this simple mod will do. It actually sounds like a vacum... but it is not too loud...

Bravo - If you have time and gumption, would you mind taking two measurements?

1. From the center of the throttle body intake (where the k&n hose is clamped) straight forward to the back edge of the fan blade shroud.

2. From the center of the throttle body intake straight to the inside edge of the engine compartment on the passenger side.

I want to compare those measurements to the same on my 3.7l.

I know where you are coming from. But the layout is different between the 3.7L and the 4.7L. See this compared to the shot above:

Unfortunately , the 4.7L intake kit won't fit the 3.7L. If the hose was flexible maybe, but I don't think that is the case. Maybe if you cut it?

Don't wanna highjack the thread, but if you still want the measurements I'll try and get 'em tomorrow when it's light out. Weather's been bad here lately.

I know it's on ebay somewhere...but which one? What is the model name or number? Who is reputable?

Are specifics not allowed in here or something?

Thanks for your help,

Jay

Thanks for that link...very much.

Last question...is there any concern or threat of water splashes getting into engine though this intake? I just learned from an expert in tuning cars for street performance that some intakes are vulnerable to letting water into the engine....

Anyone have any concerns, close calls or advice on this topic of water getting into the engine through an air intake?

I REALLY want to install one of these intakes, but want to know I'm safe first.

Thanks everyone, and please forgive me if this comes close to hijacking the thread...I'm just thinking we'd all like to know about the intake safety issue so I left the question in this thread.

Hoping to get an air intake soon!

Jay
