My airbag light comes on with the passenger seat reclined and aft. Putting the seat back up and forward makes the light go away. Is this some kind of warning about the airbag being ineffective in this seat position?

Yes that's normal, with the seat way back like that the Commander figures you are using the passenger seat for cargo etc ... and shuts of the air bag temporarily

FOUND A REFERENCE IN THE MANUAL !!!!!
11 years in the making. The section about The PassengerAirbag Disable (PAD) Indicator Light startng page 48. On page 50, right hand column. The last sentence of the continued paragraph:
" Reclining the seat back too far may change how an occupant is classified by the OCS." OCS is occupant classification system. The section also states on page 51 that the red Air Bag Warning Light will be turned on with the PAD light if there is a fault with the system. Could mean that the airbage will still work if just the PAD is illuminated?
