I have a 2010 Sport 4x4 Commander and I want to add auto head lights to it. Does anyone know whats parts this involves? I know I need the turn signal/head light lever and also a sensor. The part I don't know is what sensor(s) I need... I work at a dealership and my parts department can get me what I need but we are not sure what sensor(s) I will need...

They have a sun sensor (in the wind shield), a headlamp sensor in the light for both the left & right head lights and also a head lamp sensor (in the wind shield).

Does anyone know what it involves to install auto head lights and if it is even an option and what parts it will involve so I don't have to order more parts then I need.

Thank you!!

The sensor is built into the rearview mirror on the Commanders with the auto-dimming feature. Looking at your screen name, are you at a Jud Kuhn dealership ?

Okay on the diagram it looks like those sensors are on the wind shield, I guess they are on the mirror instead... Any idea how to add them? and what the sensors in the head lights are for?

The sensor on the windshield is for the rain sensing wipers. I don't know anything about sensors being in the headlights--that is not anything that has been mentioned on the Forum before, unless it is referring to the auto-leveling headlights which only come with the HIDs.

Here is a link to the parts diagram with what I am talking about...

http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/4423304318/

Number 1 in the diagram is called a sun sensor

Number 2 in the diagram is called a headlamp sensor available for front and rear head lamps

Number 11 in the diagram is called a headlamp sensor
The sun sensor is for the auto headlights to turn the headlights on and off at night and day.

As I said in my previous post I have no idea about the headlamp sensor. I don't know what model year that diagram is for, but if it is for a 2009 model or 2010 model then that may be referring to the auto-leveling headlights that only are available if you have the HID headlights. I don't know why you would have a sensor for the rear (tail lights).

I'm not sure what number 11 is either. It does not look like the sensor that is on my mirror that is for the auto-dimming headlights. And I'm pretty sure you have to buy the whole rear view mirror assembly to get that sensor.

Your best bet is to go to a Jeep dealership and see what parts you need. You don't have to tell them that you are not going to have them do the work.

Just trying to see if someone else has any insight on this... Like I said, I work at a dealership (Jeep being one of the franchises here) and my parts department is not sure which sensors I will need. The diagram is off of this site http://jeepparts.mopar.com/jeep/ for a 2010 model.

Thank you for your insight =)

There was another thread here discussing adding the auto-dimming headlights but I haven't located it yet. But I did find this in a thread where someone was asking about upgrading to the automatic temperature control and I think it would also apply to your situation. The answer is from a certified Chrysler tech.

Changing the build configuration is not a simple PCM flash, build configuration is stored in the FCM, Front Control Module, and CCN, Cabin Compartment Node. The CCN is the instrument cluster and the FCM is part of the foward underhood fusebox. Nobody could tell you for sure if this would work without actually trying it, which could be a very expensive and frustrating undertaking.

Which is one reason I don't like to take my vehicles to a dealer to have work done.

Yes, I agree. The only work I have done by the dealer is warranty work and oil changes. We do everything else ourselves. I have our Jeep manager checking with a technician to see if it is even possible and if it involves flashing the computer.
