I bought a cheap system from ebay that screws onto the license plate and has a mirror that clips onto the existing mirror and I have a few questions if anyone knows.

First off, which wire would I tap into for the reverse light? and how hard is it to remove panels to run the wires? I am thinking about just taking it to Geek Squad and letting them do it. Just thought I would see if anyone had any ideas that might help.

I installed a backup camera on my Commander and connected it to my OEM REC Nav radio using the lock pick device. It is not too bad installing the camera and cable. I found the factory instructions online for the camera upgrade kit that shows how to route the cable and these instructions helped make the job very easy. It took about 30 minutes to route the cable. Unfortunately I don't remember where I found the instructions, I just googled it and was able to locate them.

Couldn't beat the price and don't want to upgrade my radio and stuff yet so it will do for a temporary set up. And thanks Dan, i'll try and find them. I'm mostly concerned with the headliner and running the wires from the mirror. Going for as close to an OEM look as possible!

Anyone good with electronics and could help? I have the camera mounted and the red wire spliced into the red wire on the back up light and the black grounded to the metal behind the light. I plugged the yellow rca cable into a tv and when I put it in reverse nothing shows up 😔

I would connect the black to the ground wire that goes to the bulb. In the instructions to the backup camera I have it says not to connect to the backup light power wire as it would not trigger the camera. Not sure why.

Yeah I tried it that way too and still nothing. Oh well, maybe I'll put it off for now. What is the tool that can test for a live wire? I want to see if the wires that I spliced into the backup wires are getting any power.

I just found this on Amazon, maybe your camera works the same way.

Here are some very helpful hints if you plan to do this yourself:
2. The video cable (yellow RCA plugs on either end) also has a red wire that runs alongside (not pictured in the product photos!). Do not ignore as others have done, as this is used to automatically power on the monitor when reverse is engaged.
3. The camera has two leads off of it; one is yellow, and this is the video feed that will connect to the long video cable to the monitor. The other is red - this will be your power source to the camera. It has a corresponding plug that ends with a black & red wire. Take the red wire and splice into the power lead to your reverse light, and connect the black wire to a ground source (tap a screw on your vehicle's frame).
4. Remember the red wire that runs along the video cable? One end of this should ALSO tap into the powered line of the reverse light - WITH the red wire from the camera power feed (as noted above). Note that you will almost certainly require extra wiring in order to accomplish this, so have it on hand before the install. It simply isn't long enough and ends too close to the video RCA plug. The other end will be spliced to the green wire from the monitor (this wiring bundle is also not shown in any of the product pictures here).

Thanks for that Kodiak. I'll take a look at it again this weekend and see what I can do. Seems fairly straight forward, but couldnt get it to work for some reason. If I end up getting it I'll do a write up so others can do it.
