I’m installing a 2” RC lift and am replacing the shocks/struts. Ive decided on bilsteins for the shocks but am unsure whether to get the 4600 or 5100 ones. I already put some rubicon rims/tires on the XK but need the extra height, hence the RC lift. Thanks!!

The rear shocks are your droop limit. You can run 5100's for more droop in the rear.

In the front the springs sit on the shock body, with the 5100 fronts there are 3 options .75" lift, 1.5" lift and 2" lift. This would be in addition to your rough country front spacer. It really isnt recommended to stack those, although it is possible to get away with the lowest setting. You would end up with a kind of stinkbug look though with the front higher then the rear.


Most people, including Big Blue, run 4600 shocks in the front and 5100 shocks in the rear for that type of lift.

Ok, I’m not stacking the fronts and was just curious about the rear shocks with the lift. I don’t off-road at all this is my daily driver, I was more comcerned with wheather I had to put the 5100 on not. Thanks

i just installed the height adjustable 5100's in the front with ome springs, on the lowest setting it will give u a 1 inch lift with the stock springs so u might be looking at 3 inches in the front if u do

Were the ome springs med or heavy duty on the front? Did you do anything to the rear?

No I don't have anyplans to raise the front more than the 2" RC lift. Im replacing the front coils with the Monroe Quickstruts so it should be a fairly easy swap up front, I was more concerned with the rear shocks if anyone had any preferences between the 4600 or the 5100 shocks. I know they wont create any more lift in the back which is ok cause the original coil is still fine and the 2" RC in the back should be plenty of lift for what I need. Thanks.

The biggest reason to go with the 5100s in the rear is the extra travel. You will be maxing out 4600s with the RC lift, so you'll have no downward travel, and the extra stress on the shocks may shorten their life.

I ran 4600s in the rear for about 15k miles, and they worked fine, but they were maxed out at ride height, so even with highway mileage they were being constantly stressed.

i went with the HD springs in the front, idk why... its pretty stiff. in the rear i went with JBA 2.5 inch lift springs and 5100's

Oh you are going to run monroe quickstruts in the front... Id suggest bilsteins instead.

You are getting an entire strut assembly for about the same price as just a bilstein shock. You get what you pay for...
