Alright guys, here's the fruits of my labor (and cash lol), a blacked out grille. It's not much, but I'm really happy with how it turned out! If you look really close you can see the splotchy areas where I couldn't get the spray can, mostly the sides of the grille slats, and there's a few bubbles/overspray areas, but it looks really good overall.

Pretty poor lighting because I'm doing this in the dead of night so I apologise, if you guys want I'll snap some pics tomorrow. Please, tell me how it looks compared to the before Chrome Grille, I want honest opinions!

This was done using 4 coats and some extra touch up in areas, taking about 20 to 40 minutes dry time outside in about 50 degree temps. Only took one can, I'm shocked to say! More left over for the rims!

Which brings me to a question. First, do you think blacked out wheels will look good on a black XK? And also, the wheels have some mild-moderate corrosion on them, how is that going to be to sand off and Plasti over? I'm willing to put in a lot of time if it will look sharp.

So please, give me your COMPLETELY honest opinion! I want to know how it looks to unbiased sources lol, because after all it peels right off!

Love this product overall, and if you're looking to black out the grille of your commander using peel off coatings, I highly recommend it! Gives your vehicle a sharp look.

Thanks for checking out my post and taking the time to comment, means a lot.

Your pictures are not helping your case.
I personally think Plastdip is way over abused. If your neighbors and your buddies like it.Then keep it.If they don't.Then get it off.Thats one way to help you decide.
Good luck.

I too have the hideous chrome grill... Want to get rid of it and I keep hoping I can find someone with a black grill and just go straight up trades with them. I have used plastidip on my vehicles before (grill and wheels) here are my honest opinions.

I like the way it looks on grills except on black vehicles. The gloss black body right next to the flat grille isnt my favorite combo. My old wj was silver so the flat black was a nice accent. The wheels are usually far enough apart that it looks ok. I would definitely say lets get some pics in the light tomorrow, and always remember... If you like then everyone else can piss off...

Your pics of the things you plasti-dipped are too small to see very well.

That being said - if you like it, that's all that matters.

I love my Chrome grill and wouldn't ever think of getting rid of it.

I love the way it contrasts against my custom black steel WAM front bumper and Spyder Black Euro Headlight Housings.

Ya, the pics were pretty bad. When I I started them they said they had to be resized, and they came out all blurry. I'll try to get some better ones for anyone who wants to see how it really looks.

Alright, here are some photos I snapped this morning in the light. I actually touched it up earlier this evening, and I'm really happy with how it looks and I think the black wheels will go nicely with it as well. I think it'll look sharp as a murdered out commander, and it'll have quiet the presence as well with the lift!

I really don't know why they're turning out to fuzzy, I apologise. When I go to insert them it makes me resize them, idk. Sorry about that, but it gives an outline lol

Are you doing this from a smart phone - or from a computer?

Just trying to figure out why the pics are being resized so small.

Smart phone, just using chrome. I'm stumped. The pics are really good quality before they were resized, so it can't be my camera. Hope this won't prohibit me from posting pics in the future, ugh. I'm stumped.

You can either try using a 3rd party image hosting site - or try uploading them from a laptop.

The mobile view/compatibility of the features of this site leave a bit to be desired when you are using the mobile view on a smart phone.

It's good for basic viewing and posting - but that's about it.

Alright, I suppose I'll try that out in the future. Good to know.

In other news, I think I'm going to be doing the wheels as well. Anyone interest in seeing a thread for that? Or is everyone over Plasti dip lol

Post away, that's what the forum is for.

You can add it to this thread - or create another thread in the exterior modifications sub-forum - or post it in the what did you do to your Commander today thread.
