  • The New Chrysler Lifetime Powertrain Warranty – the first from an OEM and the longest in the industry – is a statement of confidence in the reliability of Chrysler products
  • Warranty covers the cost of all parts and labor needed to repair covered powertrain components – engine, transmission and drive system
  • Provides worry-free ownership for new Chrysler, Jeep® and Dodge owners
Auburn Hills, Mich., Jul 26, 2007 - Chrysler today announced that the Company would extend its powertrain warranty from the 3-year/36,000-mile Basic Limited Warranty to a new Lifetime Powertrain Warranty. The new Chrysler Lifetime Powertrain Warranty applies to most new Chrysler, Jeep® and Dodge vehicles purchased from dealer inventory and delivered on or after July 26, 2007.

The Lifetime Powertrain Warranty covers the cost of all parts and labor needed to repair covered powertrain components – engine, transmission and drive system. The new powertrain warranty is limited to the first registered owner or retail lessee. Customers should contact dealers for details on vehicle selection.

"This new Chrysler Lifetime Powertrain Warranty is a statement of confidence to our customers to the reliability of their powertrain. It's peace-of-mind reassurance for as long as they own the vehicle," said Steven Landry, Executive Vice President – North America, Sales and Marketing, Service and Parts, Chrysler Group.

To continue warranty coverage, the owner must have a powertrain inspection performed by an authorized Chrysler, Jeep or Dodge dealer once every 5 years. This inspection will be performed at no charge. The inspection must be made within 60 days of each 5-year anniversary of the warranty start date of the vehicle.

Landry added, "The new Chrysler Lifetime Powertrain Warranty underscores our focus on quality and customer satisfaction. It demonstrates our commitment to customers and the confidence we have in our ability to produce quality, reliable and durable vehicles. That's why we put 'lifetime' on it."

Customers may visit Chrysler.com, Jeep.com and Dodge.com for more information. A warranty promotion – print, radio, television and Internet – begins Friday, July 27.

Yeah, that is a load of crap. I bought mine back in November of 2006. So, I only have had mine for several months. I wonder if you can upgrade the basic to the lifetime? ANd if so, how much? THey should have applied this to all chrysler, jeep and dodge vehicles at least built in the 2006 year.

Geez people. You should be excited that the new purchasers will be getting a great deal. You're absolutely no worse off now than you were this morning!!!

I didn't see anyone with a 2005 Chrysler product lining up to have their warranty reduced when it went from 7/70 in 05 to 3/36 in 06

RC is right on. How can we complain about what we have just because the deal got better for others. Nothing has changed for us. I'm still happy. And I'm happy for those that get a better deal too. I didn't feel cheated yesterday and I don't today.

Well, I got mine in 2007, its a 2007 model but sadly long before July. I think this is going to be a big attraction to potential buyers, cant help wishing I had it though. john

Yeah... would be kind of nice if they allowed a buy-in option for people who bought in like the last year or two. But I will live without it. I just know that my next Jeep will probably have it... saving my pennies now.

I did read something on another site that indicated that those who had purchased a new one within the past 60 days may be able to buy the upgraded warranty. Might want to check with your dealer if you fall in that bracket.

I bought a 5-75k with mine. I knew what I was getting at the time. No complaints. just like when they added all the extra incentives. I am sure someone bought just before that too

If you think of it, if they offered it to the 06's and the 07's, then the 05's would be going "Why not us?" and so on and so forth. It only makes sense to add it to the new vehicles, or they would have to offer it back to the 80's models

this sounds all good and dandy but it just seems to me like someone is gonna have to fight with thier service department even more when thier commander is 10 years old then I do when mine isnt even 1 yet. reading all the posts about people who have had trouble getting warranty work done (myself included) this could get ugly. i do like the fact that they are at least making an effort, though.

I spoke to a service advisor and he told me that you can get a refund or upgrade to another warranty. I wonder if they will honor this new warranty on a lifted and/or modified XK?

Its a sales gimmick guys, they always do it when sales are down, it started in the '60's.Remember the 7/70 warranty of the '80's Mopar products?Read the fine print there is a catch some where, manufacturers dont give something away for nothing.Automakers love little loop holes to get away from honoring those long term powertrain warranties. This being said, one of the reasons I buy Mopar is because of my experience with their products. Never had a powertrain problem with one (other than destroying a 8 3/4 rear in a roadrunner!:p).But if it helps vehicle sales, great! It might help sway a possible customer who is unsure of buying a domestic product, and I'm all for that!:)

I also think its a Sales/Marketing gimmick..watch service prices for oil changes, tune ups etc go up at dealerships and maybe in the fine print you have to only have your car serviced by them to qualify. Either way Chrysler wins not the consumer. Keep in mind that Chrysler's 4.7L for example is design to last and have no component failure before 150k miles.

Oh, the consumer is not getting shorted anything and I don't expect other prices to go up for the cause either. They just know that the majority of people who purchase a new car only keep them a couple of years so they're really not out anything. Of course there are exceptions, but not so many that it will make a financial impact.

Or they might know that Chrysler won't be around in 5 years since an investment firm bought them......

Actually Cerebus has a history of holding onto their investments making their money from running a company correctly, not cannibalizing it and selling it off to the highest bidder. They have already shown that they have a brain on their head by announcing the planned return of Wolfgang Bernhard (as CEO) and designer Tom Gale. I think Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep will be around and stronger in 5 years.
