I've been looking around and searching the forums left and right and just need some clarification that I can't find.

I'm planning on the 2.25" Rocky Road lift, some 1.5" spacers, and tires.

Now I have looked and looked but need to know if with this setup I can run 255/70/17's.

I know they'll fit for daily driving but my concerns are:

1. I obviously don't want any rubbing.
2. Do not want to cut up my wheel wells.
3. And need to know if they will rub when the springs are compressed when off roading.

They will fit, that is what I am running and yes the wil rub and you will have to trim the wheel well. If you do not want to do that you will need a smaller tire.

Will a 245/75/17 work?

Or basicially, what is the biggest tire I can run with the lift and spacers to avoid rubbing and cutting the wheels wells evern uner compression and wheels in full lock one direction or the other?

I have the RR lift and 1.5 wheel spacers. I am running a 265/70R17 (31.5") tire and I didn't have to cut the wheel wells but there is very very VERY minor rubbing.

He asked if 255/70R17's would fit.....I thought you have 255/75R17 BFG Mud Terrains????

I just installed some 255/70R17 Bridgestone Dueler REVO's and have no rubbing issues what so ever and im running no spacers, just a BDS lift.

Here's a link to a tire calculator. I used it a lot to compare various tire sizes in making my decision on tires. I wanted as tall a diameter as would fit.

Also, I think Discount Tire (here on our forum) can advise about tires sizes that won't require trimming the plastic wheel well liner.

By the way, if you trim the plastic liner and later want to go back stock, the liners only cost about $18 apiece and are a simple diy job to replace. Up to you, of course, but that might be a good way to go, get taller tires and higher road clearance.

My setup is very close but will not rub with complete compression of suspension and full lock turning. A miss is as good as a mile. But I did have to trim the plastic and hammer down the pinch welds. But later if I spend $36, to replace the liners, it's as good as new (almost).

Also, you could install the lift and spacers, pick your preferred tire size and have just one mounted and test fit on the front. If it doesn't work to your satisfaction, go down a size.

Correct, Sorry. I would say stay with a tire no taller than 31" to avoid rubbing.

The 255/75/17 that I am running are a bit over 32"

Correct, Sorry. I would say stay with a tire no taller than 31" to avoid rubbing.

The 255/75/17 that I am running are a bit over 32"
So if you follow a49erFan's advice, and stay within 31 inches, a 255/70/17 is 31.06 inches, close enough I'ld say. That's 1.5 inches taller than stock. That's pretty good.

It probably depends on the brand because of the shape of the tread shoulder. Some are squared off, some are more rounded or even concave at the shoulder.

Well I think that settles it then for the 255/70/17s. 31" is not too bad but I still cannot believe that after all these years Jeep does not think about something .as simple as larger wheel wells. IMO the stock commander is just too low no matter how you look at it. And then when you start lifting you can still only get on 'decent' size tires...

Yes! I am running them now without a lift or spacers.

BFG AT KO's have a edge that allows them to clear the suspension and no trimming is required! They do not rub at full lock. See my garage thread for pics.
