Well, after starting the 'thinking about buying a Commander' thread and getting information on here... I went ahead and bought one on Tuesday!

And finally, I was able to snap a couple of pictures of it... in situ, at home.

It's been a blast so far, I have no complaints at all... apart from gas mileage... seems to be at about 11 mpg... on my first 1/2 tank of gas, and I haven't been WOTing it everywhere either!

This is my first SUV and my first ever V8. I love the sound it makes when getting on it, but also just the instant tiger like purr when just driving normally...

The only thing I can find wrong with it is the remote for the DVD player doesn't seem to work, even after changing the batteries! I guess that is a really small complaint!

The nav works well... I love how luxurious it feels in there! :)

I bought my first mod last night... a 13" rubber antenna to replace the 31" long aluminum one that's on there...

I may be tempted by LED tail lights in the not too distant future too...

Very impressive, did it come with the window vents or did you add them?

It is all exactly how I bought it... the vents were on there when I bought it.

The only mod so far (which is in the mail) is the black rubber shorty antenna to replace that massive aluminum one...

Yeah I started to look at that last night, but I chose to do it in the dark and couldn't see too well... do they simply just screw off, or do you unscrew them and then have to slide them out? I guess I could read the manual huh?

Surely removing them is good for 0.5mpg gain? !!!! :)

Yes, they just screw off and then lift straight up. You will see a little hook that holds them on as you lift them.

So!.....So!....Shiny! Can't......See!.....!

To do:

Step 1:
-2 or 4" lift
-Bigger tires
-Wheel Spacers

Step 2:
-Get dirty,
-Wash,
-Rinse,
-Repeat!

Have fun with it! As you get used to all that HEMI power, your mileage should go up, in time.

I have to say I am not enjoying step 2!!!

This is an awkward beast to clean, that's for sure... there are so many angles and nooks and crannies... takes forever to clean! But it sure looks purdy when it is clean!

I have considered a lift, (especially as I am surprised at how relatively cheap it is), however, it then wouldn't fit in the garage... and I am not sure I could live with that, with hail and tornado season here in Texas. I know it's a Jeep, but I don't want to intentionally beat the crap out of it!

And as for the HEMI... I love it... feels so nice underfoot, and I have gotten used to just 'cruising' around.

I had a Civic Si before this and you had to rev the nuts off it to get it going... it was quick, but you always felt you were beating on it. This is a lot more leisurely... :)

And I filled up for the first time on Sunday... and to my amazement it was only $57 to fill up (just over 16 gallons) so I can definitely live with that...

Hahahahahaha!

I mean 'hurrrummm, that is just terrible, the price we pay for gas'...

It would be nice to see gas back at the price when I moved here to the USA 6 years ago... I was paying $1.17 a gallon... then I could even use the V8 power all the time and not worry about a thing!!!! That isn't going to happen. Would be nice to see it around $2.50 a gallon again tho.

However... coming from a country with $8-12 a gallon for gas (I am originally from Scotland), $3.50 a gallon does seem pretty cheap...

a49er's comment about unscrew and lift up.....were you talking about the bars or rails too? I dont think you will get much benefit from just taking the cross bars off would you? The rails on mine have a couple screws on each side then slide it forward a bit.

But in either case, you should just move, find something more suitable for your commander to live in.....mine lives outside.......

I was just talking about the crossbars, not the roof rails themselves.

I took them off Saturday morning. By Sunday, my wife said it looked crap and I need to put them back on, and we all know you should never disobey the wife! They go back on tonight...

LOL! I used to have a show car, so I am used to having a very clean car... and I doubt that is something that will ever change... although after trying to clean the roof of this thing, I may give up... meh, who can see up there anyways! :)
