Here's a question for you all: do I need to have my vehicle serviced by the dealership (it came with free oil changes for the first 36,000 miles) or should I only take it in at select times? The reason I ask is that I change my own oil on all the vehicles in the house (1 motorcylce, 2 SUVs, 3 ATVs), but generally only take them to the dealer service for issues that are more complex than I can handle or that have warranty implications. I have 12,500 on the Jeep now and have not been back to the dealership for service ever since the first oil change at 3,000 miles when they charged me $60 for upgrading the free oil change to synthetic oil.

Course you dont, so long as you save evidence that you changed the oil. However if you are getting the service for FREE why wouldnt you use it? As to the $60 for upgrading, if you think thats too high merely buy your oil and bring it in with you. Thats what I do whenever anyone other then myself changes the oil. john
