A Friend and I took a trip to the Devil's River in South Texas. Here are a few pics from the trip.

The Devil's River is the cleanest in Texas. The clarity is amazing.

Dolan Falls...just below the state natural area.

How far did you go down river?
This last time we only went 10 miles downriver...that is the shortest distance you can paddle due to the remoteness of this river. And we where only able to do the 10 miles because a friend knows a land owner down river from the State Natural Area. This river is surrounded by private ranch land... the only public river crossing is 47 miles up river from lake Amistad (on the Texas Mexico Border)

If you don't have connections... the shortest trip you can take is 15 miles down to the State Natural area which then requires a 2 mile hike into the mountains to the SNA's jeep road and then a 22 mile drive back to paved highway. If you don't take out there (and your only allowed to in emergancys) then its another 32 miles to the lake. It is illadvised to trespass on the surrounding private land as reports have been made that angry land owners in this area tend to shoot at paddlers who leave their boats. All these factors make this one of the most remote (and cleanest) rivers in Texas. You never see another soul the whole time you are on the river.
