Just got a Jeep and after a couple days of owning it the Service 4wd light came on and it will also not let me switch to 4 low. Sometimes the console light will flash for 4wd low but it will kick off and just ding with the service light. I looked up the recall info on the Jeep and under "Current Campaign" it says it has been complete. But I am wondering if this is something that may need done again?

It was not my experience when I had it done, however, there are a few reputable members here on the forum that will tell you very adamantly, that they had to have that P73 FDCM reflash applied to their Final Drive Control module 3 times consecutively, for it to take properly.

So the answer is Yes, it's possible.

Have you had this issue before, and if so was your solution just getting the reflash done?

Yeah I'm hoping its something simple but it appears it probably won't be.
I will tell you from personal experience, these vehicles will work your nerves - and your wallet, particularly if you were unfortunate enough to wind up with one that was not very well maintained by the previous owner/owners.

However, once you chase all the bugs out of them, there is not a more capable 4x4 SUV on the road today IMO.

Turns out the problem was a battery going bad. Ran into another issue today that was more than likely caused by the battery, so I had it and the alternator checked out. Once I replaced the battery the 4wd low started working again.

I know a low/bad battery can cause a lot of different symptoms, but, this is the first time I've heard of a bad battery causing Final Drive Control Module problems, causing the service 4WD System message in the EVIC.

I'd be cautiously optimistic in your position - don't be surprised if this issue resurfaces again.

How would it suddenly work again if in fact there was something else causing the problem? Considering whatever the potential factor is has not been addressed.

Other members who have need to have the reflash of the FDCM done 3 times consecutively have reported intermittent problems with the Service 4WD system message in the EVIC.

Simply disconnecting the battery when you replaced it with a new one could have easily cleared the warning message - that's not to say that it won't return again.

If you can shift into & out of 4-LOW without that warning message popping up again, you're probably O.K.

Have you tried that yet?

My service 4wd came back a year or more ago. No 4low but who needs it.
2nd or 3rd time I was in they said if it happens again I'll need a new transmission or something. So i said f it and just live with it. Now the back up sensors stopped working so that lights on too. So sick of it. My next jeep will be a ford. I'm done fixing **** on this one. Windshield cracked too. Not my fault.
Trade it in before you spend enough money to just buy something new.
Remember jeep stands for just empty every pocket.
