After 10 years of being a proud owner I finally wore out my OEM tires and decided to do some upgrades. See my signature for the list. A nice surprise was with the RR 2.25" lift and new tires I gained 4 1/4" height in the front and 3 1/2" in the back. I'm one of the few that actually likes the rake of the Commander, and now the rake is more subtle and just right for me. Thank you to everyone who contributes to this forum for their knowledge and inspiration.

Can't see the photos. But congrats. I recently lifted mine also (after having it for 8 years) and it sure makes a huge difference in the look.

Some things of interest for those considering this setup:

Tire Size and Rubbing. My Ultra wheels have +10mm offset and with the 265/70/17 tires I had rubbing at exactly one full turn of the steering wheel, so I did the pinch weld mod. If you get this setup with a +25mm offset your wheels will stick out slightly less and I don't think you'll get rubbing and can get away without bending the pinch weld. See Big Blue's setup. He has this same tire size with no rubbing. Note, if you can't do the pinch weld right away you can get away with driving for a bit. I drove for 2 weeks with minor scratches on the liner. You'd also be surprised how creative you can get getting in and out of parking lots with less than one turn each way of the steering wheel!

Pinch Weld Mod. This post was hugely helpful and was easy to do. I found that I needed to use both a heat gun and add a couple machine screws to get the liner back enough. Especially on the passenger side where the AC lines are. I also make an extra cut or two more than Matt does because bending back the weld wasn't that easy, even using same tools. I used an angle grinder to quickly make the cuts. A recipricating saw may work too. Don't bother trying to use a hack saw, you need a power tool.

Spare Tire. If I used a matching 265/70/17 Duratrac it wouldn't fit in the spare tire well without airing down which I didn't want to do. I have an aftermarket hitch that has hex bolt heads that face the tire and I lose 1/4" to 1/2" of space. So I bought used 245/75/17 Duratrac on Amazon (yes they sell used tires) and mounted on the OEM rim. The 245/75 has slightly less diameter than the 265/70 and with maybe 1/8" of wear the tire just fits.

Roof Rack. I needed to lower the profile of the roof rack because I'm limited to 83" of garage clearance. So I bought Yakima's crossbars and slid the bars through the rack and used some DIY clamps to effectively attach the rack below the cross bars instead of above. I think it looks better this way than on the OEM crossbars and is very solid. For the clamps I used 2 types to compare: electric conduit brackets with 2 1/2" bolts in the front, and 3 1/2" stainless steel U clamps in the back. I recommend the U clamps, they are simpler and more solid. I inserted 1/4" rubber washer spacers (used old sink washers) between the crossbars and roof rack to avoid metal on metal, and with this method you can decide how much you want to lower the profile by how thick a spacer you put here. The overall height of my rig is just under 83" and I could have put thicker spacers between the bars and rack (buy some rubber drain stoppers from Lowes) get the rack even lower to the roof.

Looks great! So the 245/75 fit fine with the hitch? I have been kinda looking around for a used 265/70 and air it down for a spare but I would rather go your route and not have to worry about having a compressor

It's fine with the Curt 2" hitch, which is different than the XK OEM hitch. I recall seeing the bolts of the OEM hitch taking slightly more space than mine. So not sure if it will work unless you modify the bolts on the OEM hitch.

Tires

If it took you 10 years to wear out the stock tires what were they as I have89,000 on my Fortera's but don't know if they were orig. but am to the point of replacement. what was your mileage?

Tires

Wow that's impressive. I had my original Forteras and they wore out at 50,000 miles. I could have gone another 10 or 20k but the alignment was off and I had bad outside wear on a couple tires.

Yes I only put on 50,000 miles in 10 years. I used to live near NYC and for most of that time I only used it on weekends.
