Hello,

I've learned I need a front driveshaft. It appears my options are either OE for $518.04, or Dorman for $538.99. Every other reman part has been discontinued, and a rebuild would cost $480 with labor, though the rebuild kit is $70. Can anyone give me suggestions to which is best to go with? I have the 22". I'm still new at using the forum, so my apologies in advance if I've posted incorrectly.
Thank you for any advise! I believe this to be a popular repair, so I am wondering what is best to go with. I'm a little uncertain why an aftermarket costs more, unless maybe it's an upgrade from the OE as far as durability goes.

Have any advise on removing permanently, or replacing a leaky aftermarket oil cooler? It was added by the guy before me. I don't know if it's a hose, or the cooler itself, but my mechanic mentioned removing it, and putting the OE plugs back in. I have the 4.7L with a 5.7 L radiator also done before me. Im just learning as I go, lol

The drive shaft itself isn't worn out - one of the CV joint's is, and it's most likely the CV joint at the transfer case end of the drive shaft. It's a fairly easy part to remove and replace and it's available from a number of outlets. I've always purchased from DriveShaftParts.com - the rear CV joint you probably need is only $35. $500 plus for a drive shaft is crazy when it's just a replaceable component that has worn out. Thank you Bob! I watched a youtube video on that. When I asked my mechanic, he said he checked with a place that wanted $480 to rebuild it, and that he didn't know anyone else that did it. In the video, there's a couple of clips (can't remember the proper name) that appeared to be the most difficult of the whole job. As long as the splines are in good shape, and I could get everything greased and back together properly I'd be in good shape. Guess I'm just nervous since I've never tried it. I'll check that link out!!

I checked it out, but couldn't find the fit for an 07. They were for 06. I'm having trouble finding anything that fits from the full shaft, to the cv joints.

They're all the same - nothing changed in the front driveshaft from the '06s to the '10s. You're good to go!

I don't think that is true, I believe there are two styles and would need to verify style first. You can go to this link, click on the WK Grand Cherokee at left and see pics of the two at top:

That said, its probably the transfer case end and those appear to be the same on both shafts.

You're correct, and I should've been more clear in my post. The CV joint is the same though there may be a slight difference in the driveshaft itself.

i think my CV joint needs replacing due to noise and freeplay...im gonna buy the one listed above and replace it.

Are we able to convert our driveshafts to a double-cardon? I know my WJ had the rezeppa type (CV to CV) and I was able to replace the yokes and build a custom double-cardon driveshaft that made life so much easier on my lifted WJ.

These are shorter than the old WJ shafts, I wonder if you can convert a JK front shaft? Or, if that would be too short? When you add a flange to the yoke you add a lot to the length. I'll have to see what mine looks like after my lift. On my WJ, the front rezeppa didnt last long.
