Thanks Big Blue, I THINK I got all of that done correctly now. Didn't even know what a "QT" was let alone which one I had lol

My last Jeep was a 2000 Cherokee that I bought just to flip, which I have been known to do from time to time with old trucks people no longer want.

The commander came about because I was looking for an old beater to drive around while my GF took over my loaded 2014 Kia Sorento Limited (which, I gotta say, has proven to be a pretty great and reliable vehicle thus far) instead of us taking on a new huge car payment when we turn in her current VW Tiguan (German for "you're stupid for buying this garbage *laughs in German*") lease next month.

Spent weeks and weeks searching for the right 2004+ Ford Ranger.

When you have a girlfriend though, common sense is an available option/upgrade so ... We got something more practical. We ended up with a beautiful Commander, for a steal -about 50% less than retail cause I bought it from a guy who buys at auction. Very happy so far.

Think it has an exhaust leak. Missing original keys (has only a copy key, no buttons), came with a 450+/- cranking amps battery :surprise:, has the"service 4wd" warning light (which, if I understand correctly, I have to go to the dealer to get them to upgrade software and I'm good to go?)

Other than those things, and minor cosmetic stuff, it's in amazing shape

Looking forward to learning everything about it.

I guess you know what QT is now? If not...here's in quick: 3 different types of 4wd systems on the Commanders, Quadra-Trac I & II and Quadra-Drive II. I don't remember what decides which system you end up with, trim line or engine or what. I THINK it was 5.7s get the QD-II and the two smaller engine sizes get either of the QT systems. There's two different versions of the QT system you could have: QT-I and QT-II. If you have 4wd but don't have a 4-Lo option, then you got the QT-I. The QD is the better of the two utilizing Electronically controlled LSDs in both axles where the QT does stuff with the brakes to attempt to achieve the same traction control.

"The major difference between the ... Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II is that Quadra-Trac II uses the Brake Traction Control System (BTCS) instead of electronically controlled differentials. When it senses a left-to-right speed differences between wheel hubs BTCS can apply each of the vehicle's brakes independently, similar to anti-lock brakes, enabling Quadra-Trac II's open front and rear differentials to offer limited-slip capabilities."

Owned three different XJs myself over the years...still kinda want one again for a beater toy :icon_lol:
The service 4wd light is from a round of bad recalls from Chrysler. Fortunately, they have it all sorted out now so you missed the fun round of years when we were avoiding getting the recall or periodically pulling fuses and "resetting" the system  Some people were even hunting for junkyard transfer case computers that didn't have the recall done! You should just be able to contact your nearest dealership and see about getting the most recent recall- recalls are $$free....this is all assuming you don't ACTUALLY have a 4wd issue....
