Hey forum members!
My name is Pete. I’m not a commander owner. We bought one for my daughter. So I will be a commander support person for sure. It’s been good to her so far, but I’m sure we’ll find use of this forum.
I also posted before reading the fine print. Hopefully I’m handling this correctly now.

The Commander wasn't in an auction?? Like Mecum. They attach a ground to the engine so no static so it prevents an explosion.

Welcome to the forum. Using your daughters Commander for reference - Please read this and fill in some of your details and make a signature with your Commander details. (year, model trim, engine, 4wd system, etc.) It is nice for us know what your Commander has in it so we can better help you.

To get the list of everything built into your Commander when built at the factory - have your VIN number and go here Chrysler Build sheet - Equipment Listing Not necessarily for your signature but so you know what you have.

You can download a free Owner's Manual here--->Owner's Manual

We bought it off neighbors. They got it from their friends, who were the original owners.
The braided wire makes me think it’s for ground/ static. Can’t figure why it would attach in three places. Or where the third place is. Doesn’t hang down far enough to touch the ground. Just enough to gather snow and ice:)
I believe I filled in the info for the signature. We’ll see...

The location of the wire is about where the “B” pillar meets the rocker panel, passenger side. Crosses on an angle below the exhaust toward the middle of the vehicle.

Yes your signature looks great. Ground is a mystery. Can your neighbor ask the previous owner?

I text him but no reply yet. Daughter hooked the wire on something last night. Pulled it free of one place it was attached. I’ll get pictures when a try to reattach it.

Believe that braided ground use to attach to the rear catalyst end flange. Common that it corrodes and breaks off
If she leaves it sit long enough for me to get underneath of it, I will check if it looks like that is where it should be connected. Didn’t notice anything there before. I’ll let you know what I find. Thanks for the info Andretti

Her Jeep is a 4.7. I’ll add that to the signature. I appreciate the links. Thanks
