There's been some talk recently about replacing the headunit in the Commander.

These are the parts i purchased.

Joying headunit - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YE7SN9K/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_h26qxb10S7W49

Canbus adapter - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FMSC8KU/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_J36qxb3XZF81X

Wiring harness for canbus adapter - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HJ6OC7A/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_A46qxb4R599KJ

Install kit (not really happy with the install, may try the Scosche kit) - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000K52D0K/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_356qxbC6C52NR

Antenna adapter - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002BEQNE/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_.66qxbFA1S1A5

Total price - $369.96 with free Prime shipping.

Canbus adapter works great, although I didn't buy the steering wheel control module, it's an extra $40. This adapter retains everything else.

I didn't have to cut the dash at all like some people say they had to do.

The headunit is a Chinese unit, but it had good reviews and everything seems to work so far. I have unlimited data on my phone so I tether the headunit to my phone. Waze and Google maps works perfect as well for navigation.

Just thought I'd share since there's been a few questions about replacing the stock head unit.

Thanks for the info! What year/head unit did you replace? Did you have the second row screen? Just wondering if this would work for mine.

It's in a 2006 limited. You know, I haven't even tested the VES because I'm going to do a Raspberry Pi setup, but I will test it for you. I'm sure the headphones will work, but I'm not sure how it will work through the speakers, as there isn't really a source select on the headunit. I'll report back.

yea the metra dash kit SUCKS.
Is the unit HD radio capable?
Any experience with the Scosche kit?

It does not have HD Radio, but it wasn't an issue for me since I only listen to podcasts and Google Music.

I think when I did mine there wasn't a scosche kit, at least not one that i could find, It was a while back. But my solution was to not screw the kit down all the way, but just in enough in each spot to level it to the bezel. Still hate it though. lol

VES still works fine through the wireless headphones, and I'm working on a way to get it selectable through the speakers again. I'll report back.

I'm only aware of Metra and Scosche dash kits for after market radios. The only difference seems to be the strength/hardness of the plastic they use.

There seems to be differences in the wiring adapters as well from both, one being lesser quality, I got a wiring adapter from the one that is often lower quality, that didn't have the connectors crimped well and had a few wires NOT completing their circuits.

I could be mixing them up, since I've install aftermarket stereos so seldom, but IIRC, Metra tends to be higher quality than Scosche.

When I clicked on the Joying head unit link, this is what it said;

Currently unavailable.
We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock.

I did find this one though;
