Jeep Commander Brake Controller

First time towing something over 1500 lbs and I now need to hook up an electric break. I own a 2007 Jeep Commander(4.7L V8) with built in tow package, tow rating around 6000 LBS, I’ll be towing around 2500 LBS. I have a 7 point connector port on the back and the flap says lights and brakes on it, so I know the wiring is there. I couldn’t find much information online about the brake controller, one site mentioned looking for a green wire in the driver side floor. I pulled the carpet up, but they have everyone wrapped up so tight in shielding so I couldn’t see anything without cutting into it. So in looking in the fuse compartment area under the steering wheel, I see a green wire coming up mixed in with a bunch of red wiring and there is also a green wire feeding into the onboard diagnostics port. The question is what controller do I need? Is there a plug and play option or does it need manual wiring? I’ve attached a pic for reference. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I am in the same situation and have not installed a brake controller yet. I did find the wire coming from the back on the Jeep for the Controller under the lower driver's side panel. Mine is an Overland and it has been a while since I looked at it. (other projects) Just make sure you have the tow package, some have the 7 pin connection at the rear and are only wired for the 4 basic wires to a trailer without brakes. It was hard to see at first, keep looking, you will see it. Nothing I found was Plug n Play. There is a Mopar harness that is/was available (google search) that had to be soldered in. I figured to just wire a plug from the Controller straight in rather than use the harness. Most of the brake controllers are bulky and rather hideous if mounted in a spot in the Commander that you can actually use the controller as it was meant to be used. Same for my RV Coach. So, I went with Red Arc brake controller in the RV and liked it. Then got another Red Arc Liberty to install in the Commander. Red Arc mounts in a small area (approximately 1" circle) and has all the function you need. The brains of the unit go hidden under the dash. They have lots of videos on YouTube. It makes a clean install and works as it should.
Now maybe if I can find the time to install mine, I will have pictures...... Hope this helps.

Found a link to the harness and the instructions have a diagram of where the controller wire should be.

I am having the same dilemma right now. The local RV shop wants about $700 to install a brake balancer/controller on my 2006 Commander Limited. I found a Bluetooth wireless controller today where you use your phone to set up sensitivity and brake functions same as the old school slide on the front of a controller. Does anyone have experience with this?

I have a 2006 Jeep Commander without the tow package, I installed the hitch and replaced the 4 pin connector with a 7 pin connector and got a wireless brake controller ECHO Smart. You use your cell phone to adjust the brakes. It is great!!

I do, I got the Echo Smart brake controller and it works great. Don't let the RV shop do the work, you can find less expensive way to do it. I have a 2006 Jeep Commander 3.7 without the tow package, installed the hitch and replaced the 4 pin connector with a 7 pin connector + the Bluetooth controller and its perfect.

Echo Smart Bluetooth Brake Controller. That's all what you need and a cell phone. Your Commander has a Tow Package. You are set now. I bought the Echo Smart brake controller, pnp and it works great!!
