Our beloved 2010 Limited hasn't been in the family for a year yet; however, the dreaded notice appeared the other day. We put it in 4wd low, once. Now, it's at the dealership in town waiting for an electric shift motor actuator transplant. After reviewing as many posts on this subject I could stomach, I had to argue with the service manager on their diagnosis. I just don't see how that motor could go out when we don't even use it? I checked all the fuses too, and the ABS sensors. They said the T-case computer wasn't communicating with the motor. Ok, toss it in let's see the results! Well, the motor is on back-order and won't be available till December 1st. They won't release the Jeep till it's fixed either; I suggested unplugging the motor! Can't do that for liability reasons. Anyway, there are 67 dealers out there looking for this part. 67 stranded vehicles I reckon. We will be without the Jeep for almost two weeks. Have plenty of other cars to drive, and a rental van thru our service contract. Feels like I'm driving a fat wood tick when I sit in that van~! Details to follow, after the 1st of course! dave

If you haven't read the threads already, don't let them perform the recall or you 4 low won't work and they will tell you what they did had nothing to effect the 4 low not working and you will foot the bill while they try to diagnose hats wrong with it.

Dang. I didn't see that connection in my search. Had it in for the recall this past summer. I did mention that to them, and they obviously denied any culpability with cause/effect here.

I'm new to the Jeep Commander so I'm not too sure what threads you guys are reffering to. Could you maybe send me a link or a key work for me to search. From my research, my Commander has not been in to reprogram the final drive controller module, this seems to be the only recall that comes up with my VIN, is this the recall that you're reffering to? This might be a dumb question, but does the image below mean that my Jeep has not been serviced for the recall?

I believe that I found the thread about the recall. Sounds like it mainly applies to the Commanders with remote start, and even still, it's recommended to simply use the e-brake when parking it and avoiding the recall reprograming. I find it odd that this isn't the main sticky item on this forum, this issue sounds pretty serious, considering that it leads to big out-of-pocket repairs for most that are affected.

I brought ours in for the recall due to our Chrysler extended service agreement. Which is now paying for the shift motor and the van rental. I've read enough horror stories of companies declining payments due to insignificant things, like maintenance, changing oil, etc. So, if this came up down the road that we didn't do this, they could/would decline something else that broke down on us.

That's very understandable, I would probably do the same if I had the extended service agreement.

I am waiting for the same part.
My dealer says that the part is back ordered for 782 other Jeeps. Apparently they are changing vendors and there currently is no expected time of delivery for the part.
This is as of 12/2/13 @4pm EST.

We got our Jeep back on 12/2, hmmm, it works, but I will check underneath to see if there is a shiny new part hanging on the back of the transfer case!!

Of course - no recall warranted. I am sure they are changing vendors because they like the new vendor better and it has nothing to do with a defective product.
