Just changed out the air filter to a K&N. I do not have a CAI installed.

It has increased the gas mileage by 4 hwy and 2 -3 city. It has also increased acceleration. I can definitely feel more response by the JC. I love it!

For $50, it's definitely worth it.

This is with the BFG mudders installed!!!

That is encouragage for those looking for a cheap way to gain a few MPG, It is surprising how ineffecent the factory equipment can be at times.

What engine do you have and which filter did you use? This is good news!

I've used K&N filters for over 20 years and have never experienced any performance or mileage improvement over a stock, CLEAN, air filter. I've never anticipated any improvement. My motivation was simply having the option of cleaning and re-oiling at my convenience.

That being said, how many miles were on the filter you removed?
If you are comparing performance against a dirty filter the discussion is moot.

The C.F.M. requirements at normal throttle openings are so low there is no possible difference in mileage and the M.A.F. sensor is going to compensate for any airflow restriction by LEANING out the injectors to compensate for the reduced air flow of a dirty filter.

Carbureted engines will become richer with a restricted air filter because the vacuum in the carb gets higher and therefore draws more fuel at cruise speeds.

Wide open throttle response will be affected by a dirty filter , carbureted or not.
The carbureted vehicle will go too rich at wide throttle openings.This causes the power loss and lousy mileage us older drivers remember.

The fuel injected vehicle will respond to flow restriction again by LEANING the mixture due to M.A.F. sensor readings,again with a subsequent loss in power.

All this mumbo jumbo aside, I am not sure the membership is being provided any service unless these claims of improvement include saying something along the lines of, you are comparing results against a stock new mopar filter against a new K&N.
Each comparison was over 1000 mi etc.etc.so on & so on.

I'm sure everyone on this planet would be overjoyed with a significant mileage improvement.
I'm also sure that the auto manufacturers would be thrilled if thats all it takes.
I,m confident the truck that states 24 m.p.g. will sell better than the one with 20 m.p.g. on the window.

Try to not forget that each carmaker spends a fortune to get every additional 10th of a m.p.g.

Automotive News, July 21,2008 , has an article about squeezing more mileage out of Dodge's new 2009 pickup.
It states,[ After 200 hours of wind tunnel time we have reduced coefficient of drag from .463 on our 2008 Ram to .419 on the 2009 Ram.
So, 200 hours of wind tunnel time and proudly proclaims a reduction in drag of .044!

I hope everyone understands when I or someone with a similar background responds to this type of claim, I't is a result of the old snake oil and J.C. Witney days.
Lots of good people were separated from their money because of their advertising.

Spark plugs that improved mileage by 30%. Ignition coils with more output would provide another 10%
Heck, if you installed all the stuff they offered you'd have to DRAIN the gas tank every week. LOL.
