I got a 12 diode LED light kit today. It's 4 1/2" long and a simple 2 wire design, can either be mounted w/ 2 screws or double sided taped in place (I'm gonna test the latter to see if that will hold first). Very, very bright light you cannot stare at it long before geting dazzled. I was a bit shocked because when I bought my Commander I hadn't noticed that there wasn't an underhood light, so this simple little kit will take care of that issue and hopefully I never have an underhood issue at night where it will actually be needed. It got me to thinking if anybody on the forum has done this too. Also, wondering if anyone here has also done an LED conversion of the interior lights. I've also replaced the rear license plate bulbs w/ 5 diode LED's and they are super nice, very, very bright and look so much better than that dull yellowish glow of the stock 194 bulb. If anyone knows the OEM interior light numbers and could help me with that info. it would be greatly appreciated. I've looked around a little online and I am coming up with contradictory info.

thanks for the help Jeep5253 but I see on that long list that it says 168 or 168LL for the rear license plate light but the ones that I removed from my '08 Commander were 194 bulbs...so I'm wondering if this is a year specific list? I just put the license plate lights in today and kept the stock ones, they are definitely 194's and that was the cross reference number we found in the catalog, just having a problem cross referencing the interior lights number from the catalogs at the speedshop. I'll check on the bulbs for the marker light bulbs and rear running/brake bulbs...if I remember right those numbers on the list you provided are correct. I just don't wanna have my friend order bulbs that aren't right/don't fit, and since there isn't much room behind the lens' in the interior I'm sure I need the precise number to avoid an issue. Has anybody here actually done this conversion? If so, could you please provide me the interior bulb numbers with 100% accuracy. If so, thanks in advance.

Got that list straight from the Sylvania website. As far as I know the bulbs for all model years are the same since no changes were made to the fixtures or electrical system.

I can take a photo of mine, including the packaging and old bulbs, they are on my desk in front of me...I'll upload the pic to my album since I don't have photobucket to post directly. Give me a few minutes then look....theyz definitely 194 bulbs. That's why lists are so dubious, unless someone has actually done it any list can have errors that nobody really realizes. But I do appreciate your help.

Photo is up on my photo album for all to see. 194 bulbs in my Commander. Not 168 or 168LL. I'd recommend to all, double check any manufacturer info. because in this case, Sylvania was wrong or the post was year specific and didn't apply to my application.

Or a previous owner put those 194s in. The list I provided is the one members have been using here for several years with nobody saying that any of the numbers were wrong.

Jeep5253 thanks for your help earlier...poking around online at photos of bulbs it appears that both the 168 & the 194 (which is also a turn bulb) appear to be identical size...I am wondering if the difference is light intensity? That is just a guess on my part, but it appears that either bulb can be used in the license plate light. So technically the list wasn't wrong...but I'd still recommend my caveat of double and triple checking manufacturer suggested numbers to be sure. The only reason it was an issue w/ me is that although my friend would be willing to send the bulbs back to his wholesaler without charging me, I didn't wanna put him thru any of that potential hassle if I didn't need to. :) Side note: Anyone who is interested in a cleaner looking bulb that lasts forever and gives off much brighter/cleaner looking light be prepared to pay for it....these bulbs ARE NOT CHEAP to buy.

LED interior fault fix

I fitted LEDs to my Commander and had a problem with the centre light above the 2 row still glowing once all other lights had switched off. I read in some other sections snippets about this Dreaded LED glow problem and how some one put a resistor in line to stop the problem.
I have done this and it solved the problem. This is how to fix it.
Buy 1 x 1/2 watt 150R resistor (a pack of 6 cost 45 cents) Solder one resistor across the two connection on the centre LED light. See the photo.
Put the LED back into your centre light fitting and you've fixed the problem.
The easiest and the cheapest mod you could ever make to your Commander.
