It has been awhile since I have posted. I am getting some 265/70/17 Kumho k71 mud terrains this weekend. Do I need any special tools to remove the plastic rivets on the inner fender well? I also am wondering what the correct way to bend over the pinch weld is. I know I need a big hammer. Any help would be much appreciated.

I just used a small screwdriver to put the rivets out.
I think it's best to cut the pinch weld since it's curved it will make it easier to bend it over. You can use an angle grinder, or dremel if you are real patient. I think I did about 5-6 cuts on each pinch weld and then bent them over.. don't forget to paint/prime them so they don't rust.

Thanks Hoaxci5, I noticed a lot of picks where guys bashed the pinch weld up instead of bending it over. I did not want to create any issues with the weld that would make replacement of the fender difficult if it ever needed to be. Are the rivets reusable after removal? I know on some vehicles, you push the center pin of the plastic rivet in and that allows removal. Do you just pry these out or do you push in the center pin in first?

Yes, I installed the RR 2.25" lift back in November of last year. I am running 265/65/17's right now. I have spider trax 1.5" spacers on it and have no rubbing issues. I am expecting to have some when the 265/70/17's are put on.

To get those plastic rivets out, I take a small screwdriver, line it up with the plastic nub in the center of the rivet and whack it. That pushed the center rod out of the center where it's held with friction and also collapses the inner core that's mushroomed out to hold the rivet in place.

Thanks CrunchyWizard, that's what I thought. The plastic rivets on my Toyota pickup came off the same way.

Need help with pich weld mod.

I had the tire mounted at Discount tire on Saturday. I had to take them in two at a time because they would not touch the truck with the wheel spacers on it. When I took the rears in to be mounted, I watched the kid balancing them. I knew I was going to have issues when I saw him spin the tire on the balancer, then he loosened the tire on the machine, tightened it back up, added weights, then removed weights. He ended up spinning the tire five times, and added and removed weights three times. I test drove it on the freeway and it shakes like mad. Know I have to take them off and bring them back two at a time so they can balance them correctly. I have not bent over the pinch weld yet. the new tires barely rub. I will do the mod this weekend.

If you have the chrome clad wheels they will not balance using the center hole. They HAVE to be balanced on a machine that uses "fingers" that fit into the lug holes. Trying to balance using the center hole will damage the wheel.
