So late last night over 100 miles from home the front right window fell out of the track. With the help of my son-in-law, I was able to get it back up and tape it in place for the drive home. My question is whether to take it to a dealer or a local body shop?
I won't go into the engineering that went into the design, but it is nothing like I have seen, from the door panel removal to the window cable lift system, but nothing looks close to what my XK looks when you remove the door panel.

By KK, you mean a 2nd generation Jeep Liberty?

That's the problem with the automotive diagnostic and repair system, there are so many bad one's out there, dealerships and independent shops to include nationwide franchise shops, that no one can tell you which would do a better job.

The window's failure is obvious enough, the regulator will have to be replaced, if NOT the rails as well, any competent independent shop should be able to figure out what is wrong without needing access with the proprietary tools the manufacturer provides the dealers to insulate them from competition.

The problem is, only people in your local area are going to know if an independent shop is going to be any more competent or honest as a dealer, but yea, in general independent shops charge less than dealers.

Thanks Mongo,
Yes it is an 08 Liberty, My question is not who is the best or cheapest, it is who can do it quicker mechanics or body people. Also anyone know of a video on this. I will try to find a Liberty site, but know that others here know the entire jeep family.

Usually window regulators are very straightforward, if the window just fell down, it sounds like the cable snapped and the regulator just needs to be replaced, just about any garage should be able to fix that.

Although I have fixed 3 out of four door handles on my XK, this is the first time in the door of our KK so I will check out my local shop in the am.
