Me and my wife last year pulled the trigger and bought her a 2006 commander limited 5.7L 4x4 for her to have as a daily driver. Since we signed beside the x it has been small headache after headache first it was the sunroof leaked (that was a simple fix that time) with a quick Google search, then what was supposed to be four brand new good tires all decided to self deconstructing, and now the engine is dumping oil somewhere between the back of the engine and the transmission. The jeep went through a small water puddle the other day I'm almost certain it didn't hydrolock the engine but 5 minutes after getting home I killed it to open the Garage door and move my car out of the way and when I started it up it had a death knock upon startup and was spitting and sputtering when it started. I let it sit for a few hours while I was in the process of killing my wife by telling her that her baby is dead, I crawled under it yesterday evening and the oil is coming out from around the seal between the block oil pan and transmission. Anyone know if there is a plate or shield down there that I can remove to hunt down the seal or am I going to have too unmarry the engine from the transmission? THANKS in advance for the help.

Welcome to the forum. I don't know of a shield or plate in that area other than the factory skid plate that is covering the oil pan itself which should just require the removal of a few bolts to take off.

I'd also be curious to know, are you are seeing any DTCs (Diagnostic trouble codes) being generated in the EVIC?

Welcome to the forum. I don't know of a shield or plate in that area other than the factory skid plate that is covering the oil pan itself which should just require the removal of a few bolts to take off.

I didn't see any lights come up on the dash but I don't have a code reader on hand with me. About the plate I'm needing a way to look up into the flywheel area to see if the leak is coming from the rear main seal or is it a bigger problem considering it lost about 5 quarts of oil over 2 minutes

There should be a cover you remove to loosen the bolts that connect the torque converter and the flexplate... I'm not sure if you will actually be able to tell what went wrong, but yes, there is a way to peek inside...

So after I pulled the throttle body off of the intake after noticing abnormally high amounts of carbon buildup not letting the valve to close completely and I noticed the death certificate there is water in the back of the intake so I'm going to be looking around for a new engine to either rebuild or replace. Does anyone known if I can take a 5.7 out of a 2006 ram truck and drop it into the commander? And also while I have the engine apart what would be some recommended upgrades and replacements besides bearings rings and gaskets

Sounds like you may have dropped a valve; if that's the case, you'll probably just need a whole new block.

The Ram Hemi engines are different from Jeep Hemi engines, so your ECU may not communicate with the new engine. The Ram engine may also not fit under the hood.

Regardless, when you do replace the engine, make sure you've got redesigned heads to avoid another dropped valve. It's a whole lot easier to change the heads out before it's in the engine bay.
