Hey everyone!

I'm a Southern California transplant of 11 years from Indiana. 36 hours ago I purchased my first Jeep and I couldn't be more more excited to learn everything I can from you all. I grabbed a 2007 3.7l v6 Sport QT-1 4x4 with 119k miles and am already pining for some days off to get out to some brand new places. Seems like my wife and I must already have a dozen trips "planned" for our new get-out-of-town-mobile so life is good. I haven't been a part of a forum in about 20 years so I'm a beginner at everything from posting to actually getting the places that our car has never been able to go. Any and all guidance/tips/feedback welcome and thanks for having me. Looking forward to, well, everything!

@XKZissou ;

Welcome to the forum; You have come to the right place to learn all you can about your Commander;

There are 2 things I would do in your position:

The first thing I would do is go to the website below and plug in your VIN to see if all the factory re-calls & campaigns have been completed:

Safety Recall Information | MOPAR

The difference between a safety recall and a campaign is that a safety recall pertains to a vehicle problem that is a safety concern; a campaign is a vehicle problem that is not a safety concern, but, pertains to customer satisfaction.

If there are any factory recalls or campaigns that are outstanding, I'd get them taken care of at your earliest convenience.

The second thing I would do is e-mail Chrysler customer service with the last 8 characters of your VIN number and request a factory build sheet - which will list all of the options & packages your Commander had installed from the factory when it was built.

Chrysler's customer service e-mail address and phone number are below;

Welcome. I'm a commander newbie too.

Hey Blue, is the build sheet that you get from emailing customer service different than the one you can get here?

https://jeep.custhelp.com/app/jeep/eqlisting_detail/
Nope, it's one and the same;

This used to be where I directed people to get there build sheets - but it stopped working some time ago and when I e-mailed Chrysler/Jeep about it, they told me that this feature was no longer available;

You can read the e-mail correspondence here:

I e-mailed Chrysler today about the Factory Build Sheet problem on their website and received this response;

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for contacting the Dodge Customer Assistance Center.

I do understand your frustration of not being able to access build sheet
on website. FCA has got rid of that feature. You can email in like this
and we would be more than happy to send you a build sheet.

Can you please email me the last 8 characters of your Vehicle
Identification Number?

Thank you again for your email. Should you require additional
assistance, or have any new information to provide, please reply to this
email message or call 1-800-4A-DODGE (1-800-423-6343).

Sincerely,

Jody

I'm very glad to see that it looks like they have it up and running again.

cool, thanks. it works well as I have checked many commanders over the past few months.
Yep, that e-mail from FCA customer service was from May 19th 2017.

Maybe it was just a technical problem that has since been fixed and the customer service rep was just confused.

Or enough customers complained about it that they decided to bring the factory build sheets back online again.

Either way, I'm glad it's accessible again.

Update;

Well, it was definitely one of the 2 explanations that I posted above;

I just went to the old link I used to use for factory build sheets on Dodge/Chrysler's website - which is actually a different website from the one that @drm4633 listed - and it's working again.

What I like about this particular website is that in addition to factory build sheets, you can also use this website to check & see if all of the factory re-calls & campaigns for your Commander have been completed by just plugging in your VIN;

Additionally, you can also download and print a factory owner's manual from this website, if you don't have one for your Commander;

Dodge - Contact Us

To get the factory build sheet for the Commander you are looking at, or for the Commander you have already bought, click on "Your Vehicle" click on "Equipment Listing" and then enter your VIN number in the box that says "VIN" and hit "Search". The factory build sheet will list all of the factory options & optional preferred equipment packages that your vehicle had installed from the factory when it was built.

The difference between a safety recall and a campaign is this; a safety recall pertains to a vehicle problem that is a safety concern; a campaign is a vehicle problem that is not a safety concern, but, pertains to customer satisfaction.

For an owners manual, here is the link - and again, this is from the same website I listed above, I just navigated to the point where you select "year" and "model" of the vehicle you want the owner's manual for:

https://www.mopar.com/jeep/en-us/my-garage/select-vehicle.html
