Hello Everyone,

We're proud to announce that the new site look and feel has been completed for JeepComander.com! Our designers and software engineers have been hard at work on this for several months. It's designed to modernize the site, make it easier to use, and to make it more attractive to new members and guests that visit .

The forum software we use, vBulletin, by default is not designed to be friendly to the eyes or to look modern. We went down to the nuts and bolts of the forum software and templates, and have done a ground up approach. There are several things you will notice now that the new design is live.

1) The site should be significantly faster.

We have applied every modern technique to speed up page load and tested with all modern browsers. We want the forum to be extremely fast and easy to use.

2) The site will work much better in mobile and tablet views

We've started applying responsive design, and have designed and tested against android and iPhone devices, Android tablets, and iPads. If you are sitting at your desk or on your couch, or just on your phone, the site will work much better than it did before, and load fast. We are still working on improving the experience even further in the months to come, but we wanted to launch this as quickly as we could.

3) The homepage is bright, crisp and clean.

We wanted the first page users saw to look beautiful, so that when a new guest arrives and is debating whether to join JeepComander.com, they see a beautiful doorway, and they walk right in.

4) Garages will be featured on the site

You can show off your Commander, You can post pictures in your garage and share it with others. Make sure you post up some images to share with the community at the link below.

http://www.jeepcommander.com/forums/garage.php?do=editgarage

5) Users will be able to register with Facebook

6) The side bar can be hidden in your user options.

Click on my profile / user cp at the top right.

- click on edit your details on the left.
- Look for Show Sidebar on Forum Pages under Additional Information.
- Click disable and save.

7) Another new great feature is the @Mention user plugin. You can tag members by simply using the @ symbol.

8) Drag and Drop image uploader

We hope you enjoy it, and if you have any questions on the design, please let us know, feedback is appreciated.

If there are any issues you see. Post them up here and we will get them worked out.

Thanks,
-Your JeepComander.com Team.

Thanks for all the hard work and the new site layout and features. It will take some getting used to after using the other for 10 years, but again, thank you for the upgrade.

I'm trying to "drag and drop" images to add to threads and they begin and show the images; however, they are very large on the page. When the page refreshes... the files are gone and the upload must have failed.
Anyone else have similar problems?
The larger of the 2 image dimensions can't be larger then 1900 pixels - if it is, your upload will fail.

Even though it says the board will automatically resize it - it doesn't work properly with any kind of consistency.

If you want to post pics here without any problems - forget about drag and drop, you'll have to exhibit slightly more advanced computer skills than that.

The best way to do it is to post your pics to an image hosting website - like photobucket, which is free. Once you load your pics there and re-size them (if necessary) to ensure the larger dimension is 1900 pixels or less - then you can than copy the URL of your photo and attach it to a post exactly how I am showing you below:

Do it this way and your pic will post everytime.

I can also tell you that there are ongoing issues with member's photo albums - it has happened to me and at least 3 other members that I know of.

It will not allow us to upload pics to our existing photo albums and this is been going on for a couple of months now. I wound up just deleting my album altogether because I got tired or wrestling with it.

Now, everytime I add a new mod or new piece of equipment, I just update the pics in my garage - which is probably saving the forum quite a bit of storage space I'd imagine.

the uploading issue seems to be fixed. can you try uploading images now?

Lee
One other issue I'd like to bring up with you Lee that has been going on for several months now.

Almost on a daily basis, we have random people come to this site and create accounts just to create threads and post live streaming video links to things that have nothing to do with this forum - such as links to basketball and hockey games or links to news debates or to some movie or show; Others will post links to random websites, that are not affiliated with this forum in any way, shape, or form.

If you take a little time and go through the forum, you will see these spam threads littered all throughout the message board, in almost every sub-forum. All you have to do is look at the threads with strange titles, that have ZERO replies - and you will see exactly what I'm talking about.

It's really pretty aggravating.

Is there a possibility of putting some site requirements in place that will not allow these spammers to just create an account and start posting right away, spamming the board by posting the same irrelevant video streaming links or website links, in 4 or 5 different threads at a time?

I'd suggest maybe a 5 or 7 day waiting period before new members are given posting privileges - or a screening that must be completed by a site administrator or moderator before new members are given posting privileges - or both.

I've seen similar rules like this in place on other message forums and it really seems to help filter out the spammers and keeps them from constantly cluttering the forum with the kind of nonsense we have been experiencing here. I think it would make the forum a lot more enjoyable for all the legitimate members that have been here and are well-established.

Thanks in advance.

Hey guys,

I have gone ahead and installed a plug-in that will prevent new members from posting images/links/email addresses until they reach 5 posts on the site.
This can be change or removed at any point.

Let us know if this helps out at all.

That should filter the link spam and help promote Rookies to become more interactive rather then joining up and posting a question as their first post. Good idea.

Seems like some have already figured this spam filter out:

See the below threads:

http://www.jeepcommander.com/forums/7-performance-modifications/60113-them-face.html

http://www.jeepcommander.com/forums/7-performance-modifications/60177-happiness-never-discovered.html

There are also still several (at least 6 that I see at a glance) new spam threads posted in the last 10 hours or so - just without the URL links.

For as many spam threads that are being posted here, you may have to come up with a more comprehensive solution Richard.

I suggest IP checks at signup. They get banned, and try to signup again, nope. IP was flagged.
That's a good idea.

Also requiring an online membership application to be screened & approved by a moderator or administrator prior to granting posting privileges would also help.
