Hi All,
I just picked up an 06 and I'm looking to lift it and get some new tires on there for a fun offroad toy. It has 190K on it, but I have a fresh 2018 Ram drivetrain available if I want it. It's a 5.7 w/8speed trans/transfer case and driveshafts. Would anyone know if it will fit in and plug up (assuming some driveshaft mods)?? I look forward to learning and sharing.

Welcome to the forum @KRAUSEWICH ;

Post some pics of your Commander when you can Mike; In reference to your RAM 2018 5.7L drivetrain question, I highly doubt that will work in an '06 Commander unless you are ready to dump ten thousand dollars or more into it.

Here are some links if you want to order any parts for repairs or upgrades to your XK;

I highly doubt you'll be able to get the RAM drivetrain to cooperate in any way with the Jeep; completely different engine generation with VVT, a different transmission, different transfer case, and different driveshafts.

Thank you Blue for the many links and the feedback!!! I have a lotta learnin' to do!

Thank you both for the feedback on the Ram drivetrain. It's a shame... I can get the whole setup for less than a used low mile 5.7 hemi. I hoped the biggest hangup may be the longer?? 8 speed trans, requiring a shortened driveshaft. It has all the wiring and ECU. Would the '18 5.7 mate up with the 06 trans or will there be a whole engine, trans, ECU debacle ?! This Commander is just going to be a toy, but the 190K drivetrain will need a refresh sooner than later no doubt.

Thanks again,
Mike

Good looking XK; You'd never know it has 190,000 miles on it.

Thank you. It is generally in great shape for a Cape Cod ride for that year. The only major aesthetic exterior issue is that all of the electroplated chrome trim is wrinkled?!! Haven't decided if I want to replace it or look into how to strip it and maybe paint it black crinkle finish. A future post no doubt!

Finding any northern vehicle with 200k and not rusted through is a miracle. Well done krause, and welcome to the club!

More then likely there would be quite a control module "debacle". The new hemi would have the variable valve timing, and I think the RAM hemi has long and short runner intake. Neither of which you current control module would be able to control. Then with the new control module I don't think it could be tweeked to control the 545 trans. There's the whole oil pan and motor mount stuff to work around also. I'm sure someone could do it, but like and BigBlue said lots of money.

You may be interested in this thread on Jeep Forum. Someone is currently working through swapping a 2017 Charger Hemi into their WK. I'm not sure what the differences between the RAM and Charger Hemis are, but you'll probably be looking at a lot of the same steps if you do decide to swap.
