Hello,

I'm a new owner of a 2007 Jeep Commander 4.7L. This is my first Jeep. I've always wanted one! It'll be my daily driver. I also currently own and drive a 1991 Dodge stealth TT that I store in the winter, and a bulletproofed 2006 F350 6.0L I use for work. I'm loving my Jeep, and I'm excited to learn all I can about it. I like to keep up with maintenance and repairs, and try and do all I can do myself. I've a lot to learn about my Jeep, and I'm excited to get started. I use torque pro, and have already found some things that could use attention. Needs brakes too, likely to be my first repair.

Welcome to the forum JT07;

I'd like to echo what Creek said;

What Trim Package does your Commander have?

Sport, Limited or Overland?

Color?

4x4 or 4x2?

If it's a 4x4 - which 4WD system does it have?

QT-I; QT-II or QD-II?

How many miles are on it?

Any modifications?

Hey Blue, is there some way that new members can be prompted to provide this type of information on their XK during their first post? It would sure cut down on redundant posts.

This Jeep is 4x4, with a 2 inch lift I believe. I'm not certain which transmission I have, could you please direct me on how to tell? Thank you! I just picked it up yesterday, so I don't know a lot of details yet. I do have all the receipts from the previous owner and all the work he did, which is helpful. It is trailrated. Also, there's a ball valve installed on the engine that I'd like to learn about. It runs and drives nicely,transmission shifts smoothly, and the 4x4 low works well, is all I currently know. Fuel mileage is not so great as of now, lol

Sorry about not applying enough information. I'm also new to using forums.
My Jeep is a 2007 Sport Utility. Trail rated, flex fuel. It's 4x4 with the Quadra-Drive ll four wheel drive system. The recall for the transfer case actuator was repaired in 2013. I'm still researching the transmission info. It's a dark grey in color, vin says monotone. I'll post a pic as soon as I learn how.
I have a re-manufactured engine from Powertrain Products Inc, as of March of 2017. The body has 159K miles, though I'm not quite sure yet on the re-manufactured engine. Receipts I have from the previous owner are as follows..

Re-manufactured Engine from Powertrain Products Inc
New valve cover gasket set
New Harmonic Balancer
New Thermostat
New crankshaft position sensor
new Bosch O2 sensors
A sandwich filter adapter
New Spectra Premium Oil pan and gasket
Ultra Flo Welded 2 1/2" Muffler
New Radiator
MagnaFlow Catalytic Converter
New Manifolds/gaskets/studs/nuts
It came with a vivid linq Superchip, and it has a ball valve mounted to the engine, so it's had modifications done to it. It also has a 2" lift with BFGoodrich Mud Terrain T/A LT245/75R17 tires. I can defiantly feel those, lol!
I'll receive more info via the dealer from the previous owner in a couple days. He traded it for a brand new Jeep.
Torque Pro shows a couple fault codes, I'm still researching those. So far, it starts and runs nicely, and the 4x4 works well. The interior is in mint condition via a light cleaning, and the exterior has a few dings/dents. It still looks great though!
Also, my fuel mileage is not so great. Best so far 10 mpg, yikes, lol! Evap Monitor didn't check out ok via torque app. I'm not a mechanic, I learn as I go. I've a lot of reading to do, but I try to be sure it's done right. Thank you for any tips and advise you have :) (yes, I'm old 40 in a few weeks, feel a little behind not knowing how to use a forum. My apologies in advance)

You can't get better than the QDII drive train. I get 12-14 on my 4.7 around town sometimes as high as 18 on the road. You will have to post 5 times before you get full privileges you can thank the spammers for that rule. You just think your old. You can learn alot from this forum, just ask and search.

Thank you, that's good news about the drive train. Maybe someone can tell me how to put a pic up. I tried earlier in the albums, but it kept posting it sideways, lol. I'd like to post a pic of this ball valve to see if someone can point me in the right direction for information about why it's there. Are these replies considered posts so I can get my 5?

Creek;

All they have to do is read the sticky at the top of the New Member Section that I put there as soon as I became a moderator;

http://www.jeepcommander.com/forums/89-new-member-section/63025-new-member-introduction-post-please-read-before-posting.html

Unfortunately, I can't force new members to actually read it........I wish I could......... :headbang:

I looks as if you have it covered, but you mention the big IF, if they read it. Which I guess they don't. Any way these questions could be made a mandatory part of their first post? Just trying to improve the flow.

That's pretty much what I was trying to do when I posted that sticky;

The only other thing I can think of would be for me to ask the administrators to make up a mandatory questionnaire with these questions to be filled out by the new members as a prerequisite to giving them their posting privileges - the end goal would be to have these questions and the corresponding answers displayed as part of the new member's introduction post;

Do you currently own a Commander - or are you here doing research because you are considering buying one?

If you are currently a Commander owner, please answer the following questions;

What model year is your Commander?

What Trim Package does it have;

Which Power-Train does it have;

Is your Commander 2WD or 4WD?

If 4WD, which 4WD System does it have?

What color is it?

What's the current mileage?

Does it have any modifications done to it that you know of?

All I can do is post the suggestion over in the moderator's/admin section;

It's up to the administrators to decide whether they think it's feasible or not.

We'll see what happens Creek, I'll go ahead and post the suggestion.

Welcome to the Jeep Family

This forum and people in it are awesome. I'm a new commander owner also. Have a 2006 limited 4x4 with the 4.7l motor and this forum has helped me fix a couple of things. Mine had a shakey passenger side mirror and looking here I found a very simple fix for it. My jeep has 187.000 miles on it but it looks almost brand new. The best mileage I have seen so far is 13mpg but normally it seems to be between 10-12mpg. I changed the factory nav radio that was shot with a kenwood. Search my posts and you will see pics of the finished product.

Thank you, I have a shaky passenger mirror too. I found the post on how to glue the clips. Great info! Today I'm replacing the plugs/coils. Also, I have a MAF fault code. If I can clean it, I'm on it. I also have a body code for power locks. (They currently work) Still researching the info on this particular engine, and on the lock actuator. Also, I'll read more about a proper introduction as I have the idea that I did it wrong. I'm sorry about that. :)

Welcome aboard sounds like ya got a nice Jeep there. Don't sweat the tech stuff on forum I'm a bit outdated as well and still learning how to use technology myself. Not so intuitive for a guy like me.

So just to follow up - this is the response I received;

Unfortunately, there's nothing we can implement to make sure users answer the questionnaire. We can put the suggestion in a sticky, but as you said most users don't read them. The post count requirement only applies to the number of posts the user has, not the content of the posts.
Unfortunately, this is about what I expected.

I would think there is a way to incorporate this questionnaire as a mandatory step in the new member registration process - where you would have to answer all the questions before you are allowed to register and post - but the Administrators are saying that it can't be done apparently.

Update;

A different Administrator just answered back and he is telling me that the questionnaire can be incorporated into the registration process - which is what I thought.

So, the change should be forthcoming, I'll keep you posted as things progress.

My xk is my daily driver, and I reserve it for long trips to the OBX and delivering grand kid toys to DC area. probably not the type to be in the local commander club, but think it is a great idea.
