Thanks to all who posted on the board, I have read many posts and am learning about my vehicle. I have a 2006 Commander with the 65th Anniv. Edition, 3.7L.

I few questions I hope you can help me with . . .

1. I've noticed a trans shift around 35 mph - when holding steady throttle - that feels like a bump into the next gear. Nothing bad happens, it just that I feel it. I am still under the warranty from where I purchased it (used, off lease/fleet use, low miles) and the Jeep 3/36. Is that a normal characteristic or something I should have reviewed with the selling dealer (Carmax) or my Jeep dealer.

2. My back-up warning detectors don't seem to work very well. I see the lights on the LED readout on the ceiling going on, but I get no audio until I am at RED on the LED. That's about 2 feet from the object. I assume this is not correct operation. Anyone have a similar problem? I have cleaned the sensors with a soft cloth and they seem fine.

3. I can't access the link for the TSBs, but would really like to read them for reference. Does anyone have them to email or can someone repost them?

4. Looking underneath the Jeep, I noticed rust on the axle and on the frame (mostly at the weld joints). It's less than 2 years old and maybe not an issue, but is the normal? I guess my Suburban at 10 years old was probably pretty rusty colored, but just don't recall.

5. The ambient lights on the switches located on the Driver's door look OK at night, but one of them has no light....the Window Lock button. Is that normal? It seemed odd to me that the other buttons had light, but not that one.

Lastly, I couldn't decide whether to purchase an Extended Warranty at the time of sale, but the offer was only open during the sale. I have 90 days to cancel it so, I figured I would buy it decide later. It cost $1400 for 5 years from date of purchase or 100,000 miles; whichever comes first. It's a Maxcare warranty sold by Carmax which supposedly covers quite a bit, but not everything. Is such a warranty a good buy or am I better off taking my chances??

1. not sure about the trans, but it shouldn't do that as far as I know. What set up do you have?
2. The sensors should be beeping before they hit the red.
3. TSB link is dead. Looks like the page is now offline. Sorry, but I can't help with those.
4. Maybe it's from the coast? You might wast some rust inhibitor and undercoating.
5. I don't think that my window lock switch has light either...

Mine is a 2006 3.7L 4x4, automatic trans, 65th Anniversary Edition. I'm not sure if that is what you meant by set up.

I don't know the specifics of the 3.7 and what it comes with. I would think that the tranny bump should be looked at. I am also very in favor of having warranties. You never know...

My rear sensors work awsome and they start beeping when it hits the red. So i dont think you have any problems. A 2 ft. notice inst that bad at all as long as your not flooring it in reverse.

I think mine start beeping as soon as they pick something up, but beep faster when they hit the red. I will try to play with it when I get out of work.

I've got a '06 3.7 liter, also.

1. I certainly can feel the transmission changes, but nothing I'd describe as a 'bump'. Mine's a 4x2, if that makes a difference.

2. My backup sensors start beeping as soon as I'm close enough to get one light. Gets faster as I get closer. By the time I get to red it's a solid whine. Have you looked at the settings for this on the EVIC (Electronic Vehicle Information Center - row of buttons just under the stereo)?

3. The site that housed the TSB's, xkjeeps.com, seems to have disappeared and the domain is parked. The domain may have been let expire and been grabbed by a squatter.

4. I imagine up North they salt the hell out of the roads in winter. Salt + Water = Corrosion. Perhaps just snow in general contributes because things are wet for a good long time (I've always lived in the South so I'm speculating here).

5. My window lock button is not illuminated.

Maybe the trans is not a bump, but a slightly hard shift

I may be making something out of nothing. I'm not a transmission expert by any means. I guess I would describe the trans as perhaps slightly hard shift going from 4th to Overdrive (does it even have an overdrive..just guessing here).

If I do a full throttle start from dead stop it accelerates fine and all of the shifts seem very smooth. The only time I have felt this is when accelerating moderately slow and the trans works through the gears. Then right about 35 mph, I feel a shift that is harder than the others.

It drives fine when it does this, I just kind of feel the shift and am wondering. I guess I could ask the dealer or Jeep to look at it, but if I can help them with the diagnosis, that can go a long way as we all know.

If there even is a diagnosis....it may just be the normal workings of this trans.

Mine does the same and usually at 1 foot from the obstacle. I think the book says 11.9" it should beep solid and momentarily turn the stereo off.

Maybe I need to double-check this behavior, since most folks say it doesn't beep until the light is red. I almost never get close enough to anything to hear the back-up sensor and when I do I usually don't pay much attention to the lights.

I am pretty sure mine starts to beep when it is activated, and continues as you get closer.

My b/u sensors starts to beep starting from green to red then faster when getting closer to hit, just like webjones described.

No 'bump-like' shift I feel on my XK. That's something you may want to look into for service.
Window lock is not illiminated.

I have 3.7L 65th Ed. as well. Bought it new, as I look under, there are signs of rust on the edges of the differential, the cover itself, although very minimal. I'd say it's normal for a 2 year old car in Chicago.

One bit of advise that someone told me about the issue of rust. Here in NJ when it actually does snow they salt pretty heavy. So a quick easy fix for it, clean any dirt off the rusty area then take diesel fuel and brush or spray a very small amount of it on the rusted area. This will penetrate the rust and actually creep around to areas you can't see or reach. And because it acts like an oil it will also help protect further rusting. This isn't a permenant fix but it is a really good quick fix.

This is exactly the way mine works. I have the rear camera but I watch the led's as well.

Update on the trans "bump"

I guess it's not really a "bump".

It's really just a noticeable shift and it seems to be so only when cold. Once warm it is barely perceptible. It's the upshift from 4 to 5 on my 3.7L which takes place right around 35 mph or so when under light throttle.

I am no longer considering that an issue unless it gets worse.

HOWEVER, can anyone tell me if this is normal operation:

Rolling to a stop light and going say about 15 mph - foot off throttle;

then the light turns green - still rolling;

Upon giving it throttle there is a brief pause and then the trans "grabs" and the vehicle accelerates. Is that normal??
