i bought a used 2006 commander today with the 4.7. i have read in places that ALL commanders come standard with the all wheel drive quadra drive 1, unless specified you have the other more elaborate 4 wheel drive systems. my question is simple (forgive my ignorance): does my truck have the quadradrive 1 sysyem...did i read that right that it is standard......or does it have a plain-old 2 rear wheel drive system?
thanks very much in advance.

does it say 4x4 on the rear hatch door?

Im betting your jeep has Quadra Trac 2. does is have a T-handle near the gear shift?

if you have the T-handle it is not a 4x2.

I think the statment that they all come with qt1 means if it is 4x4 equiped. Strangly enough, dealers buy lots of jeeps that are not 4WD.
If it does not have the 4x4 sw beside the gear shifter, it ain't 4x4.

Not true. There is a 4x2 XK, but most are AWD. The shifter is specific to the 4x4's that additionally have a 4LOW range.

RWD or 4X4 is dead simple to figure out if you have the Commander there ... just look undeneath ... the 4X4 will have a host of extra parts transfer case front drive shaft front differential front drive axle etc.

RWD WON'T have these parts.

All Commanders are not 4WD or AWD (there is a difference between the two). There are plenty of 2WD Commanders. There is no 4WD system called "quadra drive 1". The 4WD systems available on the Commander are Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II. The best way to find out how your vehicle is equiped is to get a build sheet for it from Chrysler customer service. Here is a link to their email contact form. This is probably the best way to contact them. You will need your VIN #. Just put in that you would like the build sheet for your vehicle.

Obviously 2-wheel or 4-wheel was not important to him at the time. Maybe he just wanted a good looking SUV that held 7 passengers. Maybe it was a great deal, maybe... maybe... maybe...

There are always reasons people don't know exactly what they bought. Even if he asked, the dealer may not have known. When I asked my dealer, he specifically said the XK I was looking at did not have the Off-Road Package. Turns out it did. Too many reasons for not having specifics on a new vehicle to worry about - the best we can do is answer the questions we can and be happy about it.

That's a good point .. for a used vehicle, expecialy a Jeep or other 4X4 ... you should go under with a creeper and inspect for damage.

When I got my first Commander home I thought it was a 5.7, when I opened the hood and found the 4.7 I was heart broken. Dealer tried to pull a fast one but I got my 5.7

Hi all. Thanks for all of your imput. I knew from the start, I did not have a 4 x 4, I should have re-phrased my question more clearly. I was wondering whether it had the full time, AWD like someone above stated some 2WD's come eqipped with.
ANYWAY, I said the hell with it, brought the vehicle back, and GOT THE 4.7 4x4 in silver!!! It is an '06 with 26K miles on it., but it damned fine condition if I may say so. I am OCD when it comes to cleanliness so I'll prob. spend the next 2 days on the interior with my toothbrush and very diluted simple green, (that stuff has the cleanest smell)lol.....BUT I HAVE THE 4x4 now, and that's all that matters, right guys? :cool:Haha.

Ok.....new question(s)

Allright, now what comes first, people....CAI, exhaust, or chip? They all seem roughly the same price. (well except for this neat little chip I found on sale at this link...but it doesn't seem to be favorable around these parts so I may look elsewhere)
