Heres the breakdown. 58,000 miles on an '07 Rocky Mnt. Edition, w/ 3.7L. Started overheating in stop and go traffic and if I sat at idle for any period of time. Replaced thermostat, fluid, flushed. Oil changed. Transmission flushed/filled/filter replaced. Brand new six pack of coils and plugs. It was doing well after the flush and fill. Yesterday it started overheating under the same circumstances again. I've been reading and it sounds like air in the system. I bought the right fluid and a new radiator cap. Does this sound like I'm tracking right? Its' been maybe 500 miles since the aforementioned service. Not driving in a particularly warm climate (Texas, highs right now around 60). Other tidbits of info: I can see fluid boiling/bubbling into the overflow chamber. No known leaks. Um…yeah, thats it for now I think.

The proper procedure is to fill the system with the engine off and bleeder screw removed at the top radiator hose where it connects to the inlet housing. Once coolant begins coming out of the bleeder screw, re-install the screw and top off the radiator within 1" of the cap, then fill the overflow tank. Put the radiator cap on and start the engine with it set to full heat and this should begin the process of purging air. Add additional coolant as necessary.

The additional air pockets should come out once the engine has been ran for a decent amount of time and it is shut down. Ensure the pressure caps are all installed so the air bubbles into the overflow tank.

You want to fill coolant through the bleeder hole until it pours out, start the Jeep with the bleeder plug still off with the heat on high. When the air bubbles stop coming out the bleeder hole you then put the plug in. Just make sure the vehicle is at normal operating temp and that the t-stat has opened. You will know when it has opened because the hose that goes to the t-stat will get extremely hot to where you can barely touch it. This will ensure all the air pockets are out. You can keep the radiator cap on during this. Just make sure the over flow tank is full. You may need to add more coolant through the bleeder hole as air pockets come out.

I knew I saw something different to get the air out later on... either way, what I posted was from a service manual and should be accurate for doing a fill from empty.
