i have a black 3.7L commander. and i want to get the chrome sidings, but i would prefer not to spend the $350 for them. i was thinking that maybe i could paint them?
1. do they just snap on and off? or is it some special thing?
2. any recommendations on paint or application?

i was thinking i might put a blue glow where it says commander. (if the backside of the trim will allow me to.

lemme know. could really use a tip here.

I'm not sure how these come off as I have never tried to remove them, yet. But, as for painting them this is how I've done it in the past.........

1--clean trim with soapy water and rinse
2--use rubbing alcohol(<--spelling?) or something to remove any contaminants
3--depending if you want to smooth out the trim, sand smooth then clean with desired solution
4--etch prime, 3 light coats then two full coats will work
5--sand with 600 grit to remove imperfections/ clean with solution
6--spray sandable primer, 3 light coats then 2-3 full coats
7--sand with 600 grit to remove imperfections/ clean with solution
8--spray desired color in 3 light coats and 2-3 full coats
9--sand with 1000 grit*
10--sand with 1500 grit/ clean with solution*
11--spray clear coat, 3 light coats and 2-3 full coats
12--for drying times refer to your spray can instructions
13--use rubbing compound then wax
14--re-install
*--If your paint is metalic, skip these steps #9&10.

That's how I paint trim and various items.

is it a snap off? like clips? or fasteners? or is it like a sticky substance on the back like taped on?

I could be wrong but I think they are held on by plastic clips that are a part of the actual trim. If so, be careful not to break them or you would have to buy that whole new piece of trim.

Held on with clips or fasteners not adhesive.

so you think i should just primer it a few times. and then paint it with the chrome color i want?
is there a paint that will make it you know, weather proof? a protectant?

clearcoat and polish/wax will protect it as long as your prep work was done right, you'll be fine.
