I drove up Rampart Range Road today from Garden of the Gods here in Colorado Springs. While I was up there I got one of the front wheels in the air.

This video is of the drivers front wheel is in drive, 4hi and the e brake on to keep the Jeep from moving.

Is this the traction control stopping the wheel from spinning with the brakes momentarily to give more traction to the other side of the axle?

Yes, that is the Traction Control, I can see that the vehicle was not able to move even with the Traction control acting, Did you try with 4Low?

I made it up the hill just fine in 4hi. I had the e brake pulled to keep the Jeep still while I took the video.

Is this all the traction control is or does is brake more as you push the gas more? In the video it is in drive like I said but no pressure on the gas as I was outside of the car.

that is pretty much it. The open differentials want to send power to the wheel with least resistance. when a wheel is in the air the brakes are applied to make that wheel think it is on the ground and the brakes provide more resistance the the force needed to move the vehicle. that sends the power to the wheels with traction. pushing the gas more will not help it work better, if you were in the vehicle trying to climb a hill or in thick mud you could apply slight brake pressure to make the TCS work more effectively.

In more details, the TSC tries to match the speeds in both tires, thats why the break works stronger and quicker when you give it more gas.

It have been much simpler if you put it 4Low

I believe pushing more gas would help to certain limit, but I recommend using 4low to lower the wheel speeds.

And I dont think apply the break would help with the TSC!, it will confuse the breaking/ABS system!

IMHO.........I agree with Ahmed. When the traction control system is active and modulating applying the footbrake will tell the system to become ABS and will counteract the traction system. Your vehicle in the video is attempting to transfer drive to the front right wheel as traction has been lost by the front right. The vehicle is not moving only because the engine is not developing enough torque at tickover to move it against the parking brake. More ( a lot) gas in this exact stuation would move the vehicle forward.

Incidentally I would not allow my vehicle to do this as traction control systems quickly overheat when asked to modulate continuously and the centre diff is also likely to heat up
