I've been getting about 15 in town and 17-19 on the highway. I try to be good about keeping the rpms low between shifts and not speeding. I think it will improve after I change the spark plugs and toss a fresh air filter in. It just turned 35,000 miles on me.

Best I got so far was 18.6 highway (light foot, 65mph) and 13 city. My last DD was a 2500HD Duramax 4x4 crew cab pickup and got about the same mileage so its no shock to me. Actually its cheaper since regular or mid grade unleaded is 30-40 cents a gallon cheaper then diesel around here so I'm happy.

2008 Hemi w cylinder deactivation = mixed city and freeway = 16 to 17.5 actual ((not relying just on the dash computer which I've found to be a bit optimistic)).

Sometimes on trips over level ground I can get into the low 18s but the hills really pull it down ... it's a heavy rig.

17,000 miles on the odometer.

MPG Question

Hi all, this is my first post here. We bought a used '06 sport 3.7l this year and according to our message center, we are only getting 10.6 mpg in town. Is this average or is something wrong? It has 37,000 miles and I just changed oil and air filter. I also bought new plugs to install this weekend. Thanks and I look forward to learing alot from this site.

Welcome to the site.

I moved your question over to this thread. Your answer lies within. But the short answer is you are getting about the same as everyone else.

I have the dubious pleasure of having the worst MPG of any Commander on Fuelly.com. I bought My Commander after serving a sentence driving a Plymouth Voyager for 10 years. When it was time to get rid of the POS I knew I wanted a V8 and specifically a Hemi 5.7. I originally was shopping for a 300c or a Magnum but the wife and I fell in love with the Commander. It has been a wonderful weekend warrior by taking the family up the local mountains for Snow (I live in So. Cal.) and towing jet skis and fishing boats to the river. The rest of the time though it is stuck in the city driving the "grid" with stoplights every 50 feet. My house and place of employment are only 2 miles apart so my Commander doesn't get to go over 50 mph much. I dont even get on the freeway unless we are going to the river or mountains. Needless to say if you don't open the Commander up you won't see much gains in MPG. My pocket book is spared because I only drive about 60 miles a week so I'm still only filling up every 1.5 to 2 weeks. When I first got it I was getting about 9.9 mpg. Recently I added a Stage 1 Jetchip and K&N filter. I also slightly over inflated the tires. These mods bought me another 1 mpg. My guess is that if I drove the freeway more I would see more gains.

11 mpg if I'm towing, probably 15-16 mpg on the Hwy.

Probably around 13 mpg for in-town driving.

That's the one & only benefit of keeping the stock suspension.

Fortunately for me, I didn't build this rig with fuel efficiency as a priority.

I wanted to be able to get to, any place that I wanted go, without worrying about getting stuck - and I can do that.

I live in the hills, 850ft. climb 2x/day so about 11.5 mpg, on highway about 15.5 mpg, on my average tankful of mixed driving I get 13 mpg. Six months ago I installed a AFE cold air intake so now at least it sounds good while burning up all that gas!
