Has anyone with the Defender roof rack installed rear lights on the two mounts on the back? I want to add rear lights to my rack, but am concerned that the depth of the lights will hit the bar behind them. The rack is completely vertical in the back, whereas in the front it has about a 45 degree angle allowing you to add lights with depth.

I don't want the rear lights to stand up above the top of the rack, which probably only leaves me about a couple of inches from the mount to the bar behind it.

If somebody has rear lights installed on this rack, please let me know what model lights you have and post pictures if possible. Thanks!

I liked the way your defender rack looks on your Commander. So I went to their web site and noticed one photo of rear lights in their gallery.

( last photo on the right)

Perhaps they can tell you what brand lights they are.
How do you like your defender rack ? I like the idea of their light mounts and low profile.

I have the same rack and mine will fit on the rear. They are just cheap BAJA Champions from autozone. They have the mounting bolt all the way at the rear of the light so it's a straight line from the bolt up the rear of the light. I think many off road lights are designed this way.

Sal's Garage and Cico7's Garage have lights on the back of the rack.
May be others, but you might look at these for ideas.

If you want to stay below the top of the rack, I think you will need to
go with rectangular lights, that you can get reasonably priced and fab a
mount for them.

I actually found that same picture on their website shortly after posting this question. After much thought, I changed my mind and decided not to mount rear lights. I just mounted front lights on my rack and am content with just the front lights.

BTW, I love the Defender roof rack. It has been my favorite purchase for the Jeep. Just as you said, I love the low profile. Since you need to remove the factory cross rails, you can sell them for about $100 and use that money towards the rack.

Thanks for all your replies guys. Who knows, maybe I'll change my mind someday and decide to add the rear lights.

That's the perfect light. Exactly what I was looking for b/c the bracket sits back in the light, keeping the light from interfering with the cross bar on the roof rack. I'll keep this in mind if I decide to install rear lights. Thanks for the info!

The PIAA lights are nice, but only 55 watt. Are they bright enough?
I only use them for backup lights. 2 X 55's help with tinted windows. I have them wired to automatically come on when in reverse or manually and also auto for wig wags when using my emergency lights. I always agree, though, the more candela ,foot candle, lumen or lux the better !!!!

I agree, I can definitely see the advantage of having rear lights. I'm sure I'll add them at some point, I just don't feel like taking on another project right now.

One of my concerns is I would like a switch for the rear lights exactly like my two switches for my front lights. I havn't tried to search them, but I hope I could find the same switch without having to buy a whole light kit.

I posted pictures of the lights and switches on this thread:

http://www.jeepcommander.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14189

I like these switches b/c I just drilled tow holes on the top of the inside of the cubby hole where they can't be seen if I ever need to remove the lights and switches.

That is neither a roof nor a Commander.
