Here's something new...

This spring I cound not get the metal valve caps off of the TPMS stems so I took it in to my friendly tire shop to see if they had any ideas. They claim that they have seen this before; the metal valve caps actually fuse to the aluminum stems. The TPMS stems broke when trying to twist the caps off with a wrench. They claim it is from the slight electronic current flowing through the stems from the sensor that fuses the two metals together.

Whether that is the truth, or that the caps fused from all the salt and road grime I just wanted to put that warning out there that you should NOT use matal valve caps!

Not new news. There have been other threads where it has been noted that you have to use a plastic valve stem cap . If you use a metal cap you risk corroding the valve stem. Here is one of the threads: http://www.jeepcommander.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4245&highlight=valve+stems&page=2
