Since I have a programmer that should be here Monday, I was thinking what kind of performance I could get if I raised the rev limit past the start of redlining by a few hundred RPM's. If I let it go to say, 6k RPM, would this cause any damage to parts of the vehicle?

It's a V6 with 126k miles on it and runs like a dream right now.

EDIT: Perhaps I am mixing things here. I suppose what I was looking for was raising the shifting point past redline as the rev limit is probably already past redline. Either way, in doing this, am I looking at gaining any more performance, or is it probably maxed out at the redline now?

This mentality is akin to how a drag racing or street car tuner would think, with their engines that make maximum horsepower up high in the rpm range. Our engines are tuned for lower rpm torgue in order to get our heavy vehicles and their load moving, and as such there wouldn't be anything to gain by extending the operating rpm. Also more wear and tear on an old engine and trans does not sound like a recipe for success.
