So I figured it was time to start a garage thread.

I'll start first with my 2005 Gto.

Dune buggy!

Second Mod, Flag Mount For Silver Lake Sand Dunes

[/QUOTE]

Years ago there was an article in Car and Driver about driving on the sand dunes in Michigan. As I recall, the dunes were on the west side, north of Benton Harbor, possibly a State Park. I remember reading about the flag so you were visible to someone on the other side of the dune. Are these the dunes from the article, and if so, can you tell me where they are? Are they open to the public? Permit from out of state? Cost? I grew up on Long Island, NY and as soon as we got a license, we were on the beach with our buggies (home made, of course). I would love to do this again. Thanks for the post - love your jeep.:eek:rangehat:

a49efan- The light was pretty simple. I purchased a led from radio shack and had all the other materials laying around. I already had my dash ripped up to do my Ipod install. So When I removed a few of the bolts, I though, wow what a great place for that light. I used on of the holes what was just a snap, not a threaded connection. Pulled out the metal piece for the snap and drilled it out for the led. The just ran the wires and connected them where they needed to be.

dhh3- I'm glad you asked. The dunes are Silver Lake State Part Sand Dunes, about 40 miles north of Grand Rapids. This website will answer any question you have. http://www.thinkdunes.com/.

Flags are required for all vehicles. Trucks and suvs must have front flags, atvs and other offroad vehicles have them on the rear. It pretty cheap. Flags are $15, you must have an orv $16 and I belive its $9 a day for out of state plates. Other than that is fair game.

Sorry I meant how did you wire it in to tell you when the MDS was working? I have the 2006 which did not have the MDS light feature.

I simple tapped into the brown and blue strip wire on the first c1 connector. This provides a +12V signal. They LED is grounded and when it gets a signal it turns on.

RipTheSix could you please help with the MDS indicator,

Where is the C1 connector located? and How exactly I wire the lamp on it? shall I connect the two lamp wires to the connector? or one on the connector and the other grounded somewhere.

ped4599- I cut out my stock muffler and put a thrush muffler from murrays on. It sounds great, people all the time ask me whats done to it, etc. I really like it.

Thanks now its clear to me .. yes all 4 MDS lines come from that connector and I guess you used the one for MDS # 1 Brown/While color right?

I think you added this pink connector, right ?

No the wire is actually a brown with a light blue stripe. And yes I used a tap in connector rather than cutting the wire. I also used liquid electrical tap to seal eveything.

So long story short, my buddy got a ticket in June up at Silver Lake. So my buddy and myself and another friend had to go to court to testify. So we figured while were there, why not go out on the dunes.

Weather was garbage, rainy and cold. We left my house at 8 A.M. and made it up there at 1. Went to court and were done by 4 and played around on the dunes till 6 and were home by 9.

My Jeep did awsome. I was amazed at the power, I could start at the bottom of a hill and just crawl up it. On the drag strip I was wasting trucks, here a few pics for you guys.
