Bought a 2007 with 22K on it about 10 days ago. Over the past week I finally had the chance to drive it on beyond my normal to and from work route, nice smooth surfaces.

On several roads that have tar filled cracks at almost regular intervals I seem to get a feeling like the front passenger tire is hopping. I'm feeling this in the steering wheel ever so slightly. I'm not being pulled left or right. When the road smooths out this goes away. For lack of better terms it's almost like bumps at regular intervals create a standing wave, and the tire is kind of hopping along the tops.

Ideas? I still have 10 months and 14K under warranty. I would like some idea of what might be wrong before I start the repair/argument process at the dealershiip.

I have noticed the same issue with my XK at 40-45mph. I doubt that there is anything that is wrong because most vehicles would have this "washboard" affect. What was your speed over the bumps?

are your struts worn out.

mine didn't use to do this either, but i now have 50K miles and a lot of off-road miles, i think i'll be replacing mine this month.

I notice it most between 45 & 55....Have yet to take it on the highway at 65 or over.
These are not what I would consider bumps, that do this. Around here they fill the expansion joints with tar, those and unfilled that occur at regular intervals do this. Takes about 4 or 5 in a row before I feel it.

Dont know squat about struts or suspension in general....Is there some way I can check them for wear?

I have had vibration issues with snow or mud stuck in the wheel throwing it out of balance. That would probably be the first thing (balance) the dealer would/should check, in my opinion.

How about the old trick of using your body wieght to bounce the truck up and down .. then seeing how fast it stops moving?

Wheel Hop Update

Well after taking her to the dealership, of course they dont feel anything, and the clunking that has started in the front right side they are unable to duplicate. Thier solution.....grease the swaybar bushings. Which seems to have fixed it, for now.

Lets see it's -30 outside, so lets pump the bushings full of grease which will gel/harden in the cold...and of course stop the noise. DUH.....lets not fix it the first time!

Bet when the weather warms and with conitued driving they will be able to duplicate my complaints....and next time fix it, UNDER WARRANTY!

Not trying to hijack this thread, but I think someone needs to change their screen name to "acardinalsfan"
