So I can get a killer deal on rusty's springs right now. Could I literally just get these for front and back, add bilstein 5100 struts and shocks, and have a half-price 2" suspension lift? Would this combination work? I really want a lift, but I'm on a budget, and don't want a budget boost.

I'm NOT familiar with the Rusty Springs. From your post it sounds like they will give 2" higher ride height?

The Blisteins 5100 front Strut/Shock has adjustable spring perches, the lowest level you can adjust it, will result in a 3/4" lift. So, add 3/4" on to the front springs height if you use them.

A longer spring means you'll sit higher, giving you more rebound, but not necessarily more jounce, you just swapping one for the other.

The rear axle can extend/jounce a lot more than the front, using the longer 5100 shock will get you more jounce. The front, perhaps the longer 5100 will get you a tiny bit more jounce, but since its an independent suspension you may have interference if it extends to far.

The real problem is going to be rebound, can the new longer spring and shock compress down to the same point as the shorter OEM spring and shock. If they can't, then they will be damaged going over big bumps. That is why kits often come with modifications for Bump Stops, to increase them, so they stop the suspension from rebounding to the point they damage things.

That's sorta why the best way to do a lift is with a good kit, that was engineered and has everything you need.

With Rusty's springs I would suggest that you go with bilstein 5100 rear shocks and bilstein 4600hd front shocks. Unless you like the nose high look. The 5100 "struts" @ lowest setting will lift your front end an additional 3/4 of an inch.

Thanks guys. Would you (anybody) recommend the JBA UCAs with this setup? Necessary or just better?

Also, does anybody run these ProComp shocks/struts? Might go with these instead?

I considered those shocks.

I own bilstein, KYB monomax, and Gabriel Max Control equipped vehicles. They are all monotube designs, but the bilstein shocks are noticably better IMHO. Those ProComps are only 2 way adjustable, not three way like the bilsteins btw.


JBA UCA's are not required, but a nice upgrade.

I just took a look at Rusty's springs. I think the issue is there are no specs provided in the description. With OME, you can choose a medium or heavy spring but the way they have it written up, they really don't provide any info. I recall JBA is the same way. No info on the actual spring specs.

For example: OME offers medium front coils with 530 lb/in or 630 lb/in heavy front springs and the rear 240 lb/in and 280 lb/in.

Its a great price of $50 a set but its hard to say what your going to get. On another website forum under the heading Rusty's Rear 2" Springs or OME HD 2" Rear Springs? this exact topic was discussed back in 2012.

They are similar in spring rate to OME MD from what I've read.

Here's the thing, they are cheaper than a budget boost. I'd rather have the rustys springs than a budget boost. I have not heard any bad things about them from anyone who has them installed. Certainly OME has the majority vote, but for this price ($145 shipped to my door) how do you say no?

I already have rear spacers, and I am considering some for the rear.

I'm still on stock shocks @ 100k miles, so I think it's time for some new ones anyway. The question is whether I want those JBA UCAs or not. $$$

MOOG Problem solver UCA's would be a nice peace of mind upgrade that would cost WAY less money. They don't correct the angle for a lift, but are a more robust design with zerks. Should work nicely for your 2" lift. Use the money you saved to get your bilsteins, and poly sway bar bushings with zerks.

If Rusty's springs were closer to the OME HD springs, I'd be willing to give them try for the money. I'm just worried that with and Hemi and Matrix 4xguard, I'll regret a lighter spring.
