I have an 07 Overland, and when I shift from reverse to drive there is a loud single clunk, but not from drive to reverse. It drives perfect just this one single clunk each time....:icon_confused:

Is this something I can check while its on the ground? And the bushings you are talking about, the ones fro the drive shaft of the drive axles? Or all locations?

Sounds like backlash between the ring
and pinion could be a little sloppy. Block
the wheels, put it in neutral, and twist
the driveshaft back and forth. There
should be some play. Also try to wiggle
it at the pinion up and down, side to side.
It shouldn't move at all.

Check your transmission mounts. This is a known problem.

If it's transmission mounts, you'll need a jack or something
to reef up and down on it. You won't be able to feel it by
hand unless you're that good.

If it's a known problem, I'd check what jeep5253 said first.

Normally a clunk in one direction is too much backlash.
The way the pinon spins in to the ring gear.

I'd had this going on for some time. When shifting out of reverse into any gear it clunked badly. I saw this thread & went to the shop.

One guy wanted to fix it but didn't have the jacks & equipment he needed so I went to another. They said it was the differential mount & replaced it. No more clunk.
