MOPAR CUST SERVICE RESPONSE: Star Case S1218000003 (according to dealer) requires spark plug replacement to be OEM Champiom ($4.85) RE14MCC4--NOT after market RE14MCC4 found at local autoparts store. Installation of aftermarket will cause driveability problems. Case in point, my local shop installed the after market plugs (08 Hemi) at 39,400 miles and started to have stalling problems.

I went to dealer and they removed my new plugs and installed the OEMs ($220.00) and replaced the coils under my extended warranty. The OEM plugs are identical except for a different colored terminal. They also claimed the OEM plugs to be gaped at 0.040", not 0.045"

This was the most expensive "tune up" I have ever encountered and have a hard time believing there is any difference in the OEM vs after market Champion. I think the driveability issue came from the coil replacement and not the plugs. I will call MOPAR customer service 1-800-992-1997 for an explanation.

"non-OEM plugs (same part number) will cause the coils to fail and the engine to have drivability problems (stalling)" I suggested that they should change their p/n to reflect a different spec but I have not had a response from them. Since they have admitted there is a spec difference for the same p/n they might be liable in the event of an accident due to an engine malfunction with installation of owner installed aftermarket Champion plugs with the same 570-RE14MCC4 plugs.

well my owners manual called for FR8TE2, I received SPFR8TE2AA. I figure that the SP stands for Spark Plugs, but i have not figured out what the AA stands for...
Myself and another XK Owner are going to get together and put them in....

I had a 87XJ 4.0 which was real easy to work on.. But i am alittle right now doing the 4.7. Big change in space and machine.. LOL.. But I will get the plugs in, in a few months.. I am in no hurry. My XK is running pretty good.. Thanks Steve...

P.S. you know what the AA stands for?

I just opened the box and checked out the plugs.. there is green stripes on top and it says on the plug FRTE2 Germany... so i guess i have a MATCH.. LOL.. i am feeling pretty good about these plugs.. thanks again, Steve....
