Can anyone tell me where the stock amp is located. I have asked this and other questions and can't get a reply so I am trying again. I tried to have a new stereo installed and they say they have to bypass the output on the factory amp or re-run all new wires to all the speakers and I wanted see which would be easier.

I am not sure on the Commander but I think it may be in the rear left side. I am not sure why you would have to run all new wires to the speakers. The Commander uses a crossover amp to push the bass sounds to the front doors and the highs to the dash speakers. If you have the Boston Acoustics option I would try just switching the speakers first to see if you are happy with that sound before changing the amp out.

Installing just an aftermarket stereo in the commander is no easy feat. If you do it I would suggest going with an aftermarket amp also. Replacing the head unit alone you will mostlikely loose your dash speakers or the rear door speakers. (depending on how the install shop does the wiring). Many installers that I know that have done a stereo or headunit swap only say it never works just perfect. I know the parts are made to integrate an aftermarket headunit with the stock amp. These parts quickly add up to well over $150 plus time/labor for the install.

If it was me...do it all, or don't do it at all.

That is my opinion I think now to. I bought the wiring harness from Crutchfield but there is actually two of them in the back of this radio. They hooked up the deck and ther is no sound coming out because the speakers run out of the other cable going to the amp. Everything I have tried to do to this truck has been complicated. I kinda regret buying this thing. I do not know if there is an adapter for this plpug or not. If someone knows of one please let me know. Thanks for the help so far.

With my install I am by passing the stock radio harness all together. I would ask someone on the12volt.com or elitecaraudio.com . You find some of the best installers in the country frequent these sites. Im sure someone out there knows how to do it...and do it correctly.

If you find out Id like to know for my own knowledge. You could probably get infotmation like that "stickied" on the top of this forum.

This is the easiest option on any modern car. A pain, but easier. You also can upgrade the speaker wiring. I leave all the stock wiring intact, just remove factory components, save them and plug them back in if you sell the car and want to take your stuf with you. CUT NOTHING!

Yep, I use the factory harness adapter to turn on and off my stereo. I never hook the aftermarket radio directly to the harness. I use the factory harnesses ACC wire to trigger a relay going to clean +12v coming from the voltage regulator in the hatch. Everything else also comes from this clean power source.

I beleive this also saves your warranty if you run new speaker wires too. Correct me if im wrong though.
