Is there a way to modify a stock intake on a 3.7L 2008 Commander? I looked at the current configuration and there is a Ram on left side of the grill, but if you look below the filter, there is a blocked off Ram below. Is there a way to unblock the below opening or is that dangerous for the engine? Same goes for the ram in behind the grill as it is blocked from direct intake when driving. Any thoughts or concerns? Thanks.

When you install a K&N CAI you pull that ram out from behind the grill. I think it would only hurt if you drive through deep water.

Heavy off roading dirt and rocks can get up there a little but lots of people have drilled holes or cut a flap off to get a little less restricted flow. There's a thread on it somewhere here.
