Stock Rims - What is the biggest tire?

Hi folks,

Its becoming winter weather over here in the UK and I'm ready to take off my 20" Startech rims to keep them safe from the salt.

My Hemi is not lifted or lowered....however I'm looking to put my stock rims back on for the next 11 months of crap weather!!! :)

I'm wondering what size rubber should I put on? 33% wet highway 33% very wet highway & 33% MUD!....oh yeah and 1% parked up!!!

I currently have 4 x 17" rims with Wrangler HP rubber....I feel like I need a little more traction coz this Hemi's gonna get jiggy with me in a big way!!! :grim:

Whats the max width and diameter I could run without rubbing?

Cheers

Si

Me Too

I can't help but need similar info/advice. I want to try to accomplish more ground clearance by taller tires without going so big that I get rubs. I don't think I need more width. I'm running stock 17 x 7.5 rims and currently still have original P245 65R 17's with 50,000 miles on them.

I'm searching the forum, maybe the answer is already here somewhere.

Hi Si, good to see you've now got a Hemi!!

I'm running 18" wheels with 255/60/18 general Grabber AT2's (run these tyres before on my Discovery and been off road regluar. Great tyre). No suspension mods. It is a very close fit (literally a centimeter) to the bolt on the strut but it misses. Held my breath when they were being bolted on for the first time. They touch the anti roll bar enough to wipe a mark in the dirt but dont give any resistance to the tyres. If you need advice to get tyres of the same size on 17" rims try http://www.4site4x4.co.uk/home.aspx . They know their stuff and are insterested enough to take time and get exactly what you want.
The main reason I changes to 18" rims though was because we couldn't find a suitable H speed rated all terrain 17" tyre in the UK to fit that I was happy with. Cheers

There are a few different tire sizes that you could fit without rubbing in a few different brand tires. I know that all 245/70R17's will fit on a stock commander. Also 245/75R17 BFG All Terrains supposedly fit on a stock commander. I would almost assume that some 255/70R17's would fit depending on the brand of tire. If you were to get a small lift there obviously will be a wide range of sizes.

I can confirm that BFG AT KO's sized 245/75 r17 will fit without any rubbing at full lock! Just had mine installed on my XK today and they look great. I will post pic's tomorrow after I get the tires cleaned up.

I looked at the BFG all terrains for mine which at 17" would have saved me the cost opf a set of 18" wheels.
They are only r speed rated though (106 mph) and the Hemi's top speed is 129 mph. In the UK that could be a fine from the cops and notice to rectify, problems with insurance in an accident and an MOT failure. The fitters can get into trouble too sso its not worth their while.

Huh? You can get introuble for having a set of tires that are not rated for the top speed of your vehicle? Did i read that correctly. If so I think thats retarded because there is no reason what-so-ever to be going over 100mph in a Commander anyways.

yes you read that right. The craziest thing is the maximum speed in the uk is 70 mph so you can never legally drive at that speed anyway.
