Hey guys,

I called up a company to check if they had a rim I wanted in stock. They're 17x8 with 6mm of offset, and I'm using 245/65 tires with no lift. The guy on the phone went rampant saying that the Commander would require at least 18mm of offset to clear the fender. He said having 6mm of offset would create rubbing from the tires sticking out too far and destroy them if I don't have a lift kit.

No other company has mentioned this, not even Vision Wheels, the maker of the rim when I called and asked them if the rim would fit at all (I plan on calling them again tomorrow to bring this to their attention and ask again).

Does this guy know what he's talking about? I don't see how keeping the same tire and 17" rim size (only going from 7.5 to 8) would make it rub.

Thanks!

I went and measured. I'm pretty close to the plastic wheel liner when at or around full lock, roughly within .5 to .15 inches of clearance after accounting for the rims I plan to get (measured out 1.3 inches from my current setup to account for this). I don't think I need to bash over the pinch weld, but I probably just need to (hopefully only need a blowdryer) reform the plastic with heat?
